Rich - dude
Rich - long time no see
Rich - just got back from eating a big fat pizza
Dispraxis - Dr. Price posted this on facebook: A couple of years back, I did podcast lecture courses, including two series I cannot now find. Does anyone have downloads of "Modern Christian Theology" or The Gospel of Thomas?
Dispraxis - Can you help?
Rich - i can take a look to see if I still have anythingt
Dispraxis - Cool.
Dispraxis - You've been busy.
Rich - but it will take a day or so. Let me clip that text of the two subjects, and wll let you know
Rich - you like the new interface?
Dispraxis - it's spartan
Dispraxis - found out why i have redundant tweets
Rich - buzz or a RSS was also updating them?
Dispraxis - i told twitterfeed to cancel one account because i couldn't access it, but it still functions, so when I created a second, two rss feeds were posting
Rich - ah, the old, double updating
Dispraxis - weird, cuz i set it up with an openID but it just wouldn't work one day
Rich - bee up to anything exciting?
Dispraxis - not really
Rich - been enjoying the work of two bloggers
Dispraxis - goofing off on facebook mostly
Rich - stephan huller, and neil godrey
Rich - both of them write on the kind of stuff I like to read
Dispraxis - yeah, I've read both...had some emails with stephan
Dispraxis - occasionally write a blog post...been writing some horror fiction
Rich - cool, about what?
Dispraxis - i was inspired by Poe and Lovecraft, so I finished a first draft of a story called "The Eldritch Cleaver" a pun on the black leader
Rich - eldritch
Rich - very spooky
Dispraxis - an overused Lovecraft word
Rich - you using google reader much?
Dispraxis - I also just finished plotting what looks like a vampire novella inspired mostly by Poe. I think I mentioned it a while back, called Drops.
Rich - poe was one of the first writers I ever got into
Dispraxis - Yeah
Rich - it was not until college that I got into reading
Dispraxis - Love him
Dispraxis - Forced to read it in HS
Rich - and when i was supposed to be studying chemestry, i used to browser the stacks at the college library, and read poe stuff
Rich - even read a bit about his life
Rich - crazy dude
Dispraxis - A real genius...but never actually wrote an out and out vampire story
Rich - which is odd
Dispraxis - Some vampiric themes, yeah...lightly touched upon
Rich - since he had such an obsessions with being buried alive, and all that premature death stuff
Dispraxis - Let's go check him out, maybe he's still up
Dispraxis - :)
Rich - went to west point
Rich - at least for a bit
Dispraxis - did you enlist
Rich - no, poe did
Dispraxis - ha
Dispraxis - last weekend went to Michigan by myself to see some old friends
Dispraxis - i haven't gotten fucked up drunk in a long time! felt good.
Rich - still hot up there, or is it turning into fall there already
Dispraxis - saturday was hot...cooked at the hot rod crusin parade. night was perfect. didn't need the hoody i was wearing, really
Rich - nice
Dispraxis - had fun at a pig roast
Rich - do you ever listen to the common sense atheism guy interviews?
Rich - he does them regularly, and really seems to work at getting not just schmoes to interview
Dispraxis - i think i subscribe to the podcast, or at least it sounds familiar...I listen to so many
Rich - although they all are so philosophical
Rich - i have not much real interest in philosophy
Rich - all the speculation
Rich - what a horrible industry to work in
Rich - nothing you do will ever be demonstrated
Rich - a total life of speculative BS
Dispraxis - perfect for a schmoe like me
Rich - lol
Dispraxis - i was thinking of going back to school after the first of the year...choices: philosophy or basket weaving?
Rich - have you see this paper.li thingy?
Dispraxis - nope
Rich - they take twets from folks you follow, and turn it into a dial "newspaper"
Rich - check it out
Rich - [link]
Rich - you just go and put in your twitter name, and it delivers you that link each day
Dispraxis - oh wait, i saw a link about it but I failed to follow up
Rich - very interesting idea
Dispraxis - i was intrigued, somewhat
Rich - yeah, i was building the same back end about a year ago
Rich - and displaying it on a page as headlines
Dispraxis - but someone stole your thunder
Rich - their idea of making it look like a classic newspaper is interesting
Rich - nah
Rich - i got no thunder
Rich - it's all like doing cross word puzzels for me
Rich - i do it to learn and have fun
Rich - programming is my version of playing video games
Dispraxis - a lot of peeps started out that way, but others forced them into serious devotion
Rich - yeah, they probably had wives
Rich - and kids
Rich - i get to live a life like a college professor
Rich - and I don't have to teach any classes
Dispraxis - envy
Rich - i would love it if oxford or cambridge called and told me they wanted me to come live in a dorm with 30 other professors
Dispraxis - unless they were gay professors
Rich - and I would walk to the cafateria for meals, and never have to think about anything but reading and thinking
Dispraxis - gay female professors would be cool too
Rich - like, chicks with dicks
Dispraxis - as long as they keep them to themselves...he he
Dispraxis - I keep laughing at the ad up above...Asian Girls for Dating...for love and marriage
Rich - lol
Rich - i am going to have to look to see if I can make that site from page, always have the cursor at the bottom of that iframe
Rich - the data updates realtime without touching anything
Rich - but you have to scroll down to follow it
Rich - it would be cool if it just pushed up into thje visible area
Rich - then it would be one of the coolest things
Rich - folks like use are familiar with chat and irc
Rich - but for the average person to watch actual real time conversaions pass in front of their eyes, is something that impresses them
Rich - i do have it so that it auto focuses into the iframe
Rich - sonce once you hit the page, you jut have to hit arrow or page down to keep following
Rich - i am the kind of positioning the cursor so that you don't have to ever touch the mouse
Dispraxis - whew
Rich - i am thinking of getting a keyboad with a track ball built in
Rich - it is inefficient to move the hand to the mouse
Rich - snce it is always in a slightly different place then the last time you did
Rich - with the track all build into the keyboard the egonomic motion is always exactly the same distance
Rich - i could replace the num pad with a track ball, and be very happy
Dispraxis - you definitely need that
Rich - the keyboard I have now is kind of special
Rich - it has the old loud keys that the original mac and ibm pc type keyboards had
Dispraxis - my sister-in-law and her hot daughter 16 yr old are coming in to stay with us late tomorrow nite
Dispraxis - going to Indiana Sat Sun for my niece-in-law's wedding
Rich - cool, taking my parents out for their anniversary this weekend
Rich - will get to see my other brother and his family to. the on in PA, will be fun
Dispraxis - wow, i wish my parents were still around
Rich - here is they keyboard that I have; [link]
Rich - i don't see it
Rich - but they used to have a little audio fiule yo could play
Rich - to hear the keyboard, compared to other keyboards
Dispraxis - i could use a usb hub
Rich - mine is a lot dirtier than that one
Dispraxis - they didn't take the plastic protector off lol
Rich2 - opps
Ricco - you get that url
Rich - seems to me that the ball should be below the buttons
Dispraxis - yeah, i was looking for the balls
Rich - so that you end up moving the ball with the palm of your hand
Rich - i want one with the ball lower
Rich - and buttons above the ball
Rich - the ball should almost be right at the bottom of the keyboard
Dispraxis - that makes sense
Rich - so you can just slap your hand over there, and find it
Rich - but when you look at image on google, they are all way up hgh
Rich - this seems to make more sense; [link]
Dispraxis - i have moderate safesearch on so i can't see the balls
Dispraxis - gotta get a pizza out of the oven
Rich - cheers
Rich - lol, the one keyboard I noticed with the layout of trackball I am looking for is $1200; [link]
Dispraxis - who would even make a giant freeze-drier? and for what? do shipwrecks frequently need preserving like that?
Dispraxis - maybe it was a modified coffee drier
webulite - good evening
Rich - cheers
Neil - I am hoping to be able to comment on the peer review post in webulite. I click Add Comment and come to this Chat.
Neil - Hi Rich
Rich - yeah
Rich - basically at this point, you jjust type your comments here
Rich - the "comments" page will show them
Rich - make sense?
Rich - the comment is really a comments page for all pages
Rich - if there is a specific page you are commenting you just say something like
Rich - here are my comments on; [link]
Rich - and then you just type your comments
Rich - it's so simple that people are having a hard time understanding it
Rich - btw, since your hear
Rich - here is something interesting
Rich - it seems that jim west is throwing away any comment I make on his site
Rich - there is some post about accredidation that thomas verdee turned me on two
Rich - i made a comment
Rich - it never showed up
Rich - others did
Rich - they showed up
Rich - i made another comment
Rich - it never showed up
Rich - more other comments showed up
Rich - apparently he is jsut throwing my comments out
Rich - btw... one thing this comment system encourges
Rich - let's say you read some article on this site
Rich - and you have a big well thought out comment
Rich - you simply make a post on your blog
Rich - then come htere and post
Rich - regarding [[this url]] you can find my comment on [[this url]]
Rich - the other thing it facilitiates
Rich - let's say someone writes a essay that gets the whole bible group in a buzz
Rich - well, when people start to make comments on it
Rich - if they are here, they will start talking between themselves REAL TIME
Rich - Neil: you having trouble?
Rich - ok, i am off for coffee. Can't tell if you are having trouble understanding, or it your connection went down.... it shows you are still connected....
Rich - Neil: you still there?
Rich - neil... are you there!
Dispraxis - Yawn
Rich - hello there
Dispraxis - about 10 minutes to the school bus
Dispraxis - kids go to band which means they have to be at school 40 min before all the other kids
Rich - i had band as the normal first period
Rich - actually, i think it was extended, and took up two periods
Dispraxis - they treat it almost as an extra-carric nowadays
Dispraxis - however your spell carricular?
Dispraxis - but they also get special lessons once a week, but they have to make up "missed" class-time
Dispraxis - were you able to find that info for Dr. Price I asked about last time? I think that was material for sale on lulu.com, but i guess he no longer has it available to him for some reason
Rich - yeah, i looked and couln't find jack shit
Rich - lulu doesn't seem to remember anything about my older worlds
Dispraxis - it was weird...i bought his Genesis commentaries from lulu, but when I wanted to buy the Tommentary, it wasn't available
Dispraxis - figures
Dispraxis - i was never able to listen to the whole genesis thing...that electronic hum and bad recording drove me nuts
Dispraxis - i was able to use audacity to filter out the hum, but it made him sound like a muffled Cylon from Battlestar Galactica
Rich - heave you been reading stephan huller's series on polycarp?
Dispraxis - I started reading the first part this morning, which is what made me think of you
Rich - i'm moving more into the patristics area
Rich - concluded that I have read everything about jesus and the apostles
Rich - and have been wasting my time looking for new info there
Rich - there just isn't any
Rich - but people keep writing about jesus and the apostles, cause that is the only thinkg people read about
Rich - so I have been wasting my time over the last few years
Rich - more effective would be now to read about ignatius, tertullian, irenaeus, etc....
Rich - at least there there is actual historical data
Rich - and much more real material
Rich - most of it i have only read in smaller pieces
Dispraxis - hold on bus is coming
Dispraxis - yeah, quite a fountain of generally neglected data there
Dispraxis - do you belong to any discussion groups like google or yahoo groups?
Rich - there is a side benefit
Rich - in that people that study patristics are usually not religious kooks
Rich - so they can generally hold sane conversations
Rich - no, i don't belong to anything
Rich - i should start to look around.
Rich - I had given up finding a early christian history group after looking for a few years
Rich - cause people were either supernaturalistic kooks, and academic assholes
Dispraxis - if you know anything about their writings you almost automatically know more than most people and are thus a superior being
Dispraxis - do you know Rene Salm? he is a co-judge with Price for the $1k mythicism prize essay contest
Rich - no
Dispraxis - he operates the Mythicist Discussion yahoo group. I think there are only 12 members total. I have the most posts, of course
Rich - what is his url
Rich - i don't get involved with groups
Rich - they are now outdated
Rich - anyone sane has their own blog
Dispraxis - i'm not sane
Rich - what I am looking for, and actually have always thought I should build this
Dispraxis - and don't you ever believe otherwise
Rich - in fact, it is what I have been trying to do for a few yeas
Rich - is make a bbs mechanism
Rich - where nobody have to sign up
Rich - it simply displays the posts you make on your own blog
Rich - but anyone can join the group
Rich - simply by adding your blog url to the group
Rich - the trick is to track the comments
Dispraxis - i noticed webulite is becoming more of just an information feed for blogs
Rich - while blogspot and wordpress have RSSes for all the comments, not all blog mecnanisms do
Rich - so the trick is
Rich - i could show say the posts from 30 bloggers
Rich - the trick is
Rich - if someone clicks on the post
Rich - to show the comments that have been added there
Dispraxis - anyone sane would only blog on a system that allows RSS
Rich - and allow people to comment on a blog without having to sign up for all the individual blogs
Rich - it can be done to a like 90% level
Rich - and as you notice, webulite is becoming more of a passer of info
Rich - while the local site does have a complete wiki that almost nobody visits
Dispraxis - at least, you have links to blogs that i haven't seen elsewhere
Rich - that is the goal
Rich - to have an automated system in my back end
Rich - that finds NEW blogers
Rich - and then alerts others to them
Dispraxis - wikis are outdated
Rich - the problem with blogging is you read the same 12 or so people over and over
Rich - wiki's have a purpose
Rich - as a info repository
Rich - for example
Rich - on mine
Rich - let's say you look up polycarp
Rich - you will notice that the bottom *external links*
Dispraxis - it doesn't matter if wikis have a purpose, it's that as you said nobody visits
Rich - is now starting to accumlated the blogs links to bloggers that write articles on polycarp
Rich - the top of the page will have basic info to polycarp
Rich - and the bottom will have a list of link to blogs that are on that subject
Rich - it is just starting, the "external links" part at the bottom, but it is really a fantastic idea
Rich - but I use the wiki
Rich - there are two parts to the wiki
Dispraxis - Couldn't you somehow aggregrate the posts into forming articles, that dynamically change and grow as new posts accumulate?
Rich - 1) the evenone edit part, that is not key since everyone wants to post to their own blog
Rich - 2) the easy linking so you type [[paper]] and it builds you a link... that is the wiki synatx, that is what I find of value
Rich - that is what I am doing
Rich - i already have a mechanism for adding blog posts, via RSS tracking right into pages in the wiki
Rich - but they only stay there for like 30 days
Rich - as I read them, I say, "this is a good article on augustine"
Dispraxis - why 30? is that your decision?
Rich - then put a link to the original blog item on the bottom of the augustine wiki page
Rich - and eventually my copy of the blog post dies, but the augustine wiki page now has a link to it
Rich - cause If I don't read someting in 30 days, chances are I never will
Rich - remembver posts come in every day
Rich - my wiki have like two parts
Rich - a TEMP queue of copies of each post from blogs I am interested in
Rich - and a more permanant set of pages like an encyclopedia
Rich - the process is simply to read a blog item in the queue
Rich - and say this is crap, then it just goes away in 30 days
Dispraxis - do people complain about your aggregating? do they opt out frequently?
Rich - or "hey this is good" and it is on "airplanes" let me add a link to the post at the bottom of airplane wiki page
Rich - they can't opt out
Rich - nobody has complained
Dispraxis - AH
Rich - i simply use google reader
Rich - i have a folder in google reader called "blogs"
Rich - if I put the RSS in that folder
Rich - my wiki grabs a copy of every article they write into my /blogs directory
Dispraxis - i'll check out the wiki in a few...gotta use the facilities :)
Rich - cheers
mib_452sov - hello there
Rich - lol
Rich - btw, you can use a regulair IRC client for this tool
MattMc - I'll just sit here and be logged in. I'm only working.
MattMc - Yeah but where's the fun in that :)
Rich - well, then you don't have to dedicate a browser page
MattMc - more like browser tab
MattMc - That and it's one less thing to have to install.
Rich - you running unix?
MattMc - No W7
Rich - ah
MattMc - I require too many Windows-whiny tools
Rich - the baby jesus contact me this morning
Rich - he said, he fully approves the webulite.com front page now
Rich - oh!
Rich - btw
Rich - i got some fundam, entalist actually responding to some of my comments
MattMc - Ooh! Sexy!
Rich - see; [link]
Rich - the author is responding
Rich - and just today, some anon visitor of his started responding too
Rich - oh, there were two different posts... this is the other that is getting bites; [link]
MattMc - He actually had some intelligent responses. It didn't turn into a flame-fest like Godfrey & McGrath. Of course there's always time.
Rich - guess "formum" made no sense, just noticed that
Rich - yeah, the author, phillip is rationally conversing
Rich - yeah, those two should just get a room and fuck each other anally for a weekend and get it over with
MattMc - Uh.
Rich - i don't even know why godfrey posts so much about McDuff
MattMc - Yeah.
MattMc - That was my thought...
Rich - he just opens himself up for McDuff to make some hateful response to wind him up even more
MattMc - He must enjoy the party.
Rich - he would be better off never posting to McDuff's blog, and simply talking him about him as a nebulas "apologogist" or "McDuff" on HIS blog
Rich - McDuff is all about attracting people to HIS blog to watch the drama
Rich - Godfrey is pretty much is greatest "talent"
Rich - if people stopped posting drama to McDuff's blog, it would take like 2 months for people to realize that McDuff actually has nothing to say
Rich - if you read his articles, they are worthless
MattMc - I actually don't read his articles
Rich - i have never seem him put forward an idea that I have not heard 30-40 times before in other places
Rich - i don't any more either
Rich - i will occassionly go there, when neil posts something on his blog that alerts me to the fact they are having one of their lover's spats
MattMc - The only reason I would repeat someone's findings is to either give it my own little twist or to present it to my own readership.
Rich - and to tell the truth, i now only go their for like 1 or 3 of those
MattMc - On the whole... I don't have any new ideas apparently either.
Rich - MattMc, here you go; [link] if you want to listen to hullers recent essay
Rich - still working on the general delivery system
Mark_LeBlanc - Just popping on to say Hello. I will chat tomorrow night at 6:00 Pm. It is 12:46 Am currently.
Rich - hey there
Rich - it's MARK LE BLANC!
mark - Good evening.
Rich - mark le blanc!
Rich - how is my old internet friend?
Mark_LeBlanc - I'm doing good. Back to working the good ole' 9-5 shifts.
Rich - mark le blanc!
Rich - good to see you
Rich - have you got a twitter account yet?
Rich - don't mean to imply inevitability with the YET, just meant did you get one
Mark_LeBlanc - Unfortunately no.
Rich - i have been actively working to try to create a forum mechanism where people don't have to signup to participate
Mark_LeBlanc - I do, for other purposes but I haven't been on it in ages.
Rich - and that allows them to make their entries on their own blog, yet share then woth others
Mark_LeBlanc - I am too busy working on this: LINK COMING SOON.
Rich - and I have hit on using twitter as the sort of login mechanism itself
Rich - you can see how it works on the site, [link]
Mark_LeBlanc - [link]
Mark_LeBlanc - I was on the site yesterday.
Rich - i have also discovered a REALLY cool site/tool called [link] that basically expands the size of a tweet into a regular document
Rich - it looks ROCKIN, did my first twitlonger post today
Rich - and they off APIs which I am going to have to check out
Rich - let me look at your site
Mark_LeBlanc - My site?
Mark_LeBlanc - [link] is nothing at the moment.
Rich - holy crap! that ain't no site, that is the guts of code
Rich - i meant the png you posted
Mark_LeBlanc - Yeah. I am a programmer.
Mark_LeBlanc - :P
Mark_LeBlanc - I'm working on a utility to auto-backup a set of indexed folders to a separate location every night.
Rich - cool
Mark_LeBlanc - For the company that I work for. It took a server crash, and a near loss of everything for them to finally ask me to perform what I was truly built for. ;)
Rich - cool, my next little project is to scan my email for items that I have Buzzed (you get copies of them) and then add them to my local wiki in the buzz namespace
Rich - shouldn't be hard, I have done all the pieces of it before
Rich - but it will allow me to do single entry of things, yet have things saved so they can be presented to people via a browser interface, and searched on
Rich - i will make many wiki entries simply as Buzz items, and then they will get auto added to the wiki for storage and searching
Rich - have you been using Google Buzz at all?
Rich - i find that both Buzz and Twitter are tools I am using more and more
Rich - also been reading a lot of medieval stuff
Mark_LeBlanc - I would if I found a nice niche that I didn't mind writing about.
Rich - found a great web site that posts people's diserations, mostly in the firld of medieval history
Rich - yeah, those tools are only really useful if you have something to say
Mark_LeBlanc - Be back shortly. Going to the store.
Rich - cheers
Mark_LeBlanc - Didn't realize it was 11:00 Pm already. The store closes at 12:00.
Mark_LeBlanc - I made it.
Mark_LeBlanc - Medieval history is an interesting subject.
Rich - yeah
Rich - alhtough I was thinking about it yesterday during dinner
Rich - it's basicailly a period (bweteen the fall of rome and the renessance)
Rich - where NOTHING is written about but theological speculation
Rich - you don't have books on pretty much anything else
Rich - you don't have people enjoying sports
Rich - you got noting but supernaturalistic speculation
Rich - the only good thing is that the folsk that study and discuss it are a bit more sophisticated than the bible kooks you usually finde
Rich - most people kook will not read the writings of that that time
Rich - so it sort of self eliminates the kooks, and you get more intellegent people talking on the subject
Mark_LeBlanc - Well, sort of.
Mark_LeBlanc - An intelligent being can still profess a moronic belief.
Mark_LeBlanc - The intelligent side, will force this person to read into the belief, however no matter the evidence mounting against it, it is still likely they continue with there 'path'.
Mark_LeBlanc - Just added Tar, and Tar.gz compression support. :D
Rich - crazy
Mark_LeBlanc - *Yawn* Now to add network support & set it to keep only 5 backups + 1 end of month backup for each month.
Rich - then make the whole system look like a HOT stepford wife
Rich - that screams out, "you are the KING!" whenever you use it
Mark_LeBlanc - Haha, that'd be fun.
Mark_LeBlanc - I need to make a gui now.
Rich - what do you use to do that
Rich - does that run on the desktop, or via a browser?.
Mark_LeBlanc - I can do either. Though this specific application will be ran on the desktop.
Rich - well, i know how to present stuff via a borwser
Rich - but I have always wanted to be able to make an app, that someone could download, that would actually run on their desktop
Mark_LeBlanc - I can make the user interface, either a Framed application ( Desktop app ) or an Applet ( Browser app )
Rich - but I don't know the languages required to d that
Mark_LeBlanc - Or support both, depending on how it was opened.
Mark_LeBlanc - For browser applications I think the standard languages are: Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, and Java.
Mark_LeBlanc - Though there may be others.
Rich - yeah, i was talking about the desktop
Rich - i always wanted to make a app that would run on people's desktop
Mark_LeBlanc - Assembly, C, C++, C#, Python, Perl, Java, and the list goes on.
Rich - actually like adium
Mark_LeBlanc - I don't know what Adium is.
Rich - that would allow them to connect to my irc server
Rich - and let them add it to their toolbar
Rich - an IRC client
Mark_LeBlanc - Oh
Mark_LeBlanc - I've made a few of those. ;P
Rich - the other thing I wanted
Rich - was to find some open source browser
Mark_LeBlanc - The only difference between an Irc Bot, and a Client is the lack of a User interface on the Bot.
Rich - that I could set the home page to, and lock it, then erase the toolbars and such, and let folks download it
Rich - it would then connect to some web page I wanted by default
Mark_LeBlanc - Developing a full blown browser is a task.
Mark_LeBlanc - That even I would not undertake. :(
Rich - that was my solution for making an app that would run on their machine, witout having to learn to program
Rich - no, you don't iunderstand
Mark_LeBlanc - Now developing a clone browser, using an existing ones libraries is easy.
Rich - just find some browser
Rich - and set the home page to [link]
Rich - and then edit it so thinks like the preferences are inaccessible
Rich - and hiding the toolbars and location bar
Rich - get it
Rich - it would run on the box
Rich - but I would not have to learn how to program for desktops
Rich - and it would be a stand alone application :)
Rich - get it
Mark_LeBlanc - Yeah, that wouldn't be too hard. Learn Visual Basic.
Mark_LeBlanc - I made one when I first started out in programming years ago.
Rich - i've evolved beyond wanting that any more
Rich - :)
Rich - now that I have my own IRC server, and can link to the mibbit chat page
Rich - that's good enough
Mark_LeBlanc - :P
Rich - mibbit puts the effort into making it run on all environments
Rich - and I just have my small server, so that people can have names like "Mark" and "Peter" since almost no one uese it
Mark_LeBlanc - I use XChat simply because it is what came with my Operating System.
Rich - yeah, use xcht too
Rich - that is what I am in right now
Rich - it's free for os x and unix
Rich - if you run windows you have to pay for it
Rich - HA HA
Mark - I don't have to pay for it.
Mark - Linux. FTW.
Mark - How do I register my nick name.
Rich - yeah, i call linux unix
Rich - you don't
Mark - I will.
Mark - You'll see.
Rich - lol
Rich - i don't thik so
Rich - here are no services on my server
Mark - :P
Mark - Well I think it is my bed time.
Mark - Err
Mark - I'll have a quick smoke first.
Rich - talk to you again
Rich - feel free to idle
Mark - We have a few more minutes together.
Mark - I planned on it.
Rich - i would like to get 6 or so folks to hang
Rich - a sort of first wave of reguliars
Rich - i've hidden the "other tools" so it's best to take that out of the topic
Rich - my goal is to promote webulite.com as a single fucntion now
Rich - basically a public BBS based on tweets
Rich - all you do is add @webulite to any tweet and it gets added to the site
Mark - You should add an Irc Tweet function
Mark - !Tweet @Webulite Message goes here
Rich - i have the chat link on the site
Rich - you mean from the channtl to twitter?
Mark - Yeah.
Rich - that would require the chatter OAuth to twitter
Rich - sounds like a pain in the ass
Rich - the idea is not to have people becaome the stand IRC addicted fools
Mark - I'm an IRC addicted fool. :(
Rich - :)
Rich - well, we can add that function for you
Rich - if I can figure out how
Rich - i have OAuth ability on my box
Rich - i OAuth for google buzz
Rich - i used to do it for Tweets when I ran drupal
Rich - so I sort of know what it would take
Rich - step one would be tweeting everything via the webulite user
Mark - Watch me end up writing an entire Irc -> Twitter interfacing library.
Rich - so that anyone could do a !tweet bitchen
Rich - and it would tweet from webulite user
Rich - but that owuld also be a problem
Rich - cause then idiots could come here and spam
Rich - and everyone would stop following webulite on twitter
Mark - !tweet spam, spam, spam sizeof(spam)
Rich - since it would just be broadcasting crap
Mark - !tweet I will take my sandwich with a can of spam.
Rich - you sshould get a twitter account
Rich - since it then is easier to undersand what people are using it for
Rich - and then look at twitlonger.com
Rich - which basically makes twitter into an email program
Rich - and since folks omn their cell phones can get that
Mark - I was thinking about integrating the applications I develop with Twitter.
Rich - there is no reasson to do any IRC magic
Rich - since IRC requires a constant connection
Mark - IE my backup application to auto-notify via Twitter on problems, success, etc.
Rich - so there is overhead
Rich - twitter is better
Rich - for folks with mobile devices
Rich - or the xmpl whatever that google uses in their instant messaging
Rich - like jabber
Rich - that is no a constant needed connection
Rich - IRC is really dead
Rich - jabber or whatever protocal that is is the future for mobil devices
Mark - I think I might write an IRC library. For clients, bots, etc.
Rich - which really pisses off the IRC adicts
Mark - IRC & Twitter libraries. :D
Mark - I got to sleep bud.
Rich - cheers
Mark - I'm leaving with ideas though. :P
Rich - cool
Rich - i love ideas
Mark - Good afternoon.
Rich - cheers
Rich - mark le blanc
Mark - ;P
Rich - wanna hear the crazy thing I want to do
Rich - i am making my own simply wiki
Rich - so I will be the only one editing pages
Rich - so instead of the standard browser interface to a form to edit shiot
Rich - i want to have a link
Rich - that will only show up for my ip
Mark - I guess "wanna hear the crazy thing i want to do" was rhetorical.
Rich - that is EDIT
Rich - that when I hit it, i find some way to open my local editor
Rich - breaking all the rules of what a browser is supposed to NOT allow you to do
Rich - looking how to run a local app from a browser
Rich - figure if I can run textwrangler that will be a start
Mark - Yeah.
Rich - but if I can it will make my life easy
Mark - Browsers can run a limited number of local apps. Obviously the Java Runtime Environment, and Flash Players are "Local Apps" with 'Plugins' for the browser.
Rich - i am making a simple cms
Mark - ;o
Mark - Big web developer now. ;)
Rich - that allows me just organize my files via my local system
Rich - so, in my doc root
Rich - i will be able to make a folder
Rich - religion
Rich - and throw some files in it
Rich - all .txt
Rich - and it I later wnat to make a programming folder
Rich - i can
Rich - all local
Rich - and the cms
Rich - will simply show the root directory
Rich - and links to the folders
Rich - etc,....
Rich - simple eh
Mark - Yeah
Rich - web is only for display
Rich - not editing
Rich - but if I am on a page
Rich - and want todo an edit
Rich - i want to be able to hit EDIT on that page
Rich - not find the folder and all
Mark - Why would you think "The web is for display, not editing".
Rich - no, i don't mean that
Rich - i want to edit all my files with my local textwrangler text editor
Mark - The web is this vast interconnected array of networked computers. It is kind of amazing what we can do with it.
Rich - not read the contents of the file into a form
Rich - and then edit it in a TEXTAREA
Rich - and hit save and writ it back
Mark - Ah.
Rich - all my edits will be done like you are editing a local file
Rich - i just need the browser, so that YOU can see my files
Rich - we should talk
Mark - You pick the best time. ;)
Mark - Right after I watch "The Mentalist".
Rich - your a mentalist
Mark - Commercial!
Mark - It's over.
Rich - your life?
Mark - My life is full of commercials.
Mark - Though it will never be over.
Rich - here is what I was gonna plant in your mind
Rich - you programmers never think of these things
Rich - that is why you need an IDEA man like me
Rich - it's a simple idea
Rich - you know of IRC right?
Rich - people can join rooms
Rich - and post
Rich - and see everything in that room
Rich - well.... nobody has done it. And if someone did it would be HUGE
Rich - just take my word for it
Rich - replecate IRC with twitter
Rich - now, don't say, oh, you could do it with something else
Rich - the point is
Rich - twitter is ALMOST like irc
Rich - for people
Rich - and they understand
Rich - and use it
Rich - but, there is no ROOM concept
Rich - i can post to you
Rich - and you can post to me
Rich - and people can go to your twitter page, and see the posts you make
Rich - or mine and see the posts I make
Rich - but there is no place to go where they can see both
Rich - AND, it can't be all your posts
Rich - just the ones you want to go to a channel
Rich - like typing
Rich - #channel @user hi there
Rich - # does a special thing on twitter, it taps into a search
Rich - but, that is a detail
Rich - the point is
Rich - the first person that makes EFNet for twitter will be bought by twitter
Rich - and make huge bucks
Rich - seems like the projects you are working on are for run
Rich - i mean, your not hired to do them
Rich - so why not work on something
Rich - that if you make it, it will surely be used, not by 20 geeks
Rich - but by 200,000 people
Mark - So how do you propose something like that work?
Rich - well, how well do you know twitter?
Rich - do you know you target people with @bobby
Rich - do you know that the # does
Rich - bsically it allows you to create SEARCH tags
Rich - so people will say stuff like "had fun on #fb today"
Rich - #fb being facebook
Rich - then you can do a search on #fb and see tweets with #fb in it
Rich - it seems to me, since # is always been the channel syntx
Rich - you simply use that
Rich - so we want to make a channel called webulite
Rich - you just tweet "#webulite @bobby is a boy
Rich - or #webulite bobby is a boy
Rich - i have a java script that will show all the items either on #webulite or @webulite or both
Rich - that is what is running on my webulite.com page
Rich - the key is really just bringing it all together
Rich - into an app
Rich - so that you can do more than I do now
Rich - like check the name in the tweet before you post it to the list, ie a ban list
Rich - cause you will get crazy spammers
Rich - right now I don't have my front page showing # only @
Rich - cause if you click on #webulite it takes you to a search page
Rich - but if you click on @webulite it takes you to the webilite twitter pge
Rich - which at least keeps you inside the forum world
Rich - i could explain more of how I see it working, i have thought about it alow
Rich - the key would be for some person that can make "apps" make a iphone and desktop app
Rich - so that when using the app
Rich - the #webulite get's filled in for you
Rich - based on what room you are "in" at the time
Rich - but many people use twitter
Rich - and the posts are really as fast as IRC
Rich - i mean, they are fast enough to be considered real time
Rich - yet, nobody has made a "group room" so that people can be twittering to that room
Rich - it seems like a natural thing
Mark - Yeah, I think I understand the concept.
Rich - the amazing this is
Rich - the concept exists
Rich - in IRC
Mark - Anything you say with #FB would also get posted to a "FaceBook" room, in which other people could sit in, and see all the posts.
Mark - And make posts themselves.
Rich - and the pieces are there
Rich - yet no on ymade it
Rich - yeah
Rich - #fb is apparently slap
Rich - it's not like there is actually a #facebook place
Rich - people just know #fb is facebook
Rich - so don't be confused there
Rich - like there is a name for each hash
Rich - the name is the hash
Rich - they are made on the fly
Rich - like #poperty
Rich - here let me shoe you
Mark - I know what you mean. Essentially #FB can mean anything, just the general community knows it to mean Facebook.
Rich - right
Mark - However, it can and most likely will be used entirely out of context, however it is still correct.
Rich - the way I have done it
Mark - It could be referring to FootBall.
Rich - was I made a webulite user
Rich - so i use @webulite for @webulite
Mark - 'Seen the latest #FB stats?'
Rich - but there are advantages to that
Rich - because #webulite would take you to a search page
Rich - io am looking for a tweet with a hash in it to show you what happens when you click on it
Rich - here, go here; [link]
Rich - notice #something gets handled different than @something
Rich - @ are people
Mark - Yeah.
Rich - but the # is the key to this channel thing
Rich - since people are using # anyway
Rich - now.... let me change my front page, and show tou
Mark - So, for someone to link to me they would use @Mark.
Rich - i will change my front page to key on #fb tag
Rich - yes
Rich - hold on
Rich - ok, go to [link]
Rich - notice, i changed the filter from @webulite to #fb
Rich - so it's showing any tweets that have #fb in it
Rich - probably a bad example
Rich - so many are posting that the whole schreen updates
Rich - let me think of a good on
Rich - ah #jesus
Rich - hold on
Rich - i want to show you how the scroll actually works
Rich - ok, refresh that page
Rich - wow, still losts of people tying jesus
Rich - the point is
Rich - that is it was a less commone word
Rich - the whole screen would not refresh
Rich - it would just push all the crap down, and the new one would appear at the top
Rich - but see
Rich - that is now effectively a #jesus channel
Rich - if I tweeted "I love #jesus" it would show up there
Rich - i mean, that script I have really is it
Rich - what I was thinking would be a oppertunity for you
Rich - was to make it better, and more generic, and add /ignore features, and make, etc....
Rich - then it's just a matter of promoting it
Rich - it's one of those things where, i can't fugure out why nobody has done it
Rich - i fact my script is wrong
Rich - it's pickup up not just #jesus but also jesus without tag
Rich - i am sure I can change that
Rich - but for webulite it never mattered
Rich - i mean, nobody is out there even using the word webulite, it's one of the nice things about the name
Rich - here, i think i can change it to eliminate the no hash
Rich - nope
Rich - my script id doint a search, not just on hash tags
Rich - but you get the idea
Rich - i thnk it is a great oppertunity idea for some developer
Rich - you gonna be around for a while?
Rich - brb
Rich - you there?
mark - Back, sorry about that.
Rich - le blanc!
mark - ;)
Rich - do me a favor
mark - Depends.
Rich - hit [link]
Rich - and tell me what ip you see in the top of the page
Rich - and then after the ip tell me your first menu item
mark - Wouldn't that be mine.
Rich - yeah
Rich - ok it doesn't strt with 151
mark - It is my i.p.
Rich - on the bottom right you have two opts
Rich - back and top
mark - Yup.
Rich - and nothing else?
Rich - great
mark - Just back | TOP
Rich - i have been wrestling with trying to distinguish beteen the server ip and the visitor ip
Rich - cuse I made a major change to my wiki
Rich - they have all this permissioning
Rich - allowing people to do things depending if they login and other things
Rich - well... since I am the only one that edits that was causing problem
Rich - snce this is also my local machine
mark - You have 46 followers.
Rich - the server needed _www permissiona I am webulite
mark - Very nice.
Rich - nd moving files around became all fucked up
Rich - so.....
Rich - i thought
Rich - IF
Rich - i could simply do an IF around editing and page creation
Rich - that said "if $visitorip == $machineip
Rich - i would be able to turn OFF completely their permissioning
Rich - but with php i could tell the differnce between the server and the visitor
Rich - ip
Rich - so.....
Rich - i simply made a text file
Rich - outside the server path
Rich - and i put my ip in it
Rich - it's like a log in :)
Rich - my ip is dynamic, but it never changes
Rich - so I will have to edit that file like once every three months
Rich - but now
Rich - i can do all editing
Rich - and I cam make folders and move files around on my loval machine outside the browser
Rich - and all works nicely
Rich - it is something that has been a problem for a very long time
Rich - now I don't hve to write that CMS i was talking about
Rich - this existing system with some more tweeks will work great
mark - I was contemplating writing a CMS, not so much for utility. Moreso experience.
Rich - i hear ya
mark - Got to find a new way to manage my configuration files now. Since I want to be able to perform runtime modifications to them.
mark - :(
mark - Also I need to find a way to send Gigabytes of data over a LAN.
mark - So that I can backup our data at multiple remote points.
Rich - i got another mission, that you will know if it is easily doable or not
mark - Shoot.
Rich - i might haave talked to you about this before
Rich - and against it's one of thoise things I am surprised just does exist easily found out there
Rich - so forget the twitter list on the front page
Rich - assume I move that over to the sidebar
Rich - what I really want on that main area
Rich - is a chat embed
Rich - that will link to my irc server
Rich - and just bring the person that hits the site right in as guestxx
Rich - no "choose a login" like the mibbit widget
Rich - just bring them to a fucking channel screen
Rich - is there a simply java script or something that will do that?
mark - I don't know.
Rich - i don't even need anything fancy
mark - I've never heard of such a thing.
Rich - if the channel list couldn't be shown no biggie
Rich - just a big chat area, and an iput box
Rich - yeah, that's wried isn't it
Rich - i mean, you would think mibbit's first sceen would take you right into a #help or #welcome chat
Rich - it seems is that could be done
Rich - then page presnetation is totally easy
Rich - you want to post that a new essay is avaialbe, just have a robot post a message to the channel
Rich - that i have done
Rich - automatically based on other things
Rich - it's getting the person to him the home page and be right in the channel wityout having to choose anything that i can't figure out
Rich - to me, that is the optiman web site
Rich - three sections
Rich - main window of chat text
Rich - small input line below
Rich - right hand sidebar where you put hyperlinks to all your functions
Rich - sort of where a nick list is in a regular chat window
mark - You really don't want your end users to do a damned thing do you? :P
Rich - that is my ideal web site
Rich - i do
mark - Just type in the URL and BANG shit just starts happening.
Rich - they will chose links from the sidebar
Rich - and they will be able to DO SHIT from the irc commnd line
Rich - i'll tell you the honest fact
Rich - if you put a CHAT link on your site
Rich - nobody hits it
Rich - and if they do
Rich - when it says "choose a nick" they back out
Rich - but...
Rich - if they walked into a romm
Rich - and saw text
Rich - the would love it
Rich - the problem is overcoming the problem of GETTING them there
mark - I don't know.
mark - Shit.
mark - I have to store a bunch of "Key=Value" objects in a map. However I need to allow for duplicate keys.
mark - :(
Rich - dups suck
mark - Yup.
mark - I've got a solution.
mark - Instead of storing the "Input Files" in the Config file. I will just store a location to the "Index file"
mark - Inside that, we will just list the files.
Rich - i think they call the "by reference" instead of "by value"
mark - Means I have to write an extra function to parse the 'Index' file.
mark - Added support to change the config file. :)
mark - I also fully support comments
mark - String:Key:/* This won't be seen */value\nWould'nt should anything inbetween the comments.
Rich - can java script for widgets NOT have white space?
Rich - i have code like this in a widget i am editing
Rich - can i separate it out into white space
mark - Sure, as long as you don't accidentally separate a command.
Rich - ok, thanks
mark - Want me to do it?
Rich - no, i was just curious
mark - Alright.
Rich - well... ok
Rich - you got a program to do it
Rich - or you gonna do it by hand
mark - I do have programs to do that, but I was just going to do it by hand.
Rich - let me paste bin it
mark - K
mark - I need a little break from thinking up designs for the visual aspect of the widely acclaimed production: Linux Backup Daemon!
mark - LBD for short. ;P
Rich - thats odd pastebin returns a blank screen
Rich - can i dcc it
mark - I don't have DCC setup.
mark - Let me see how it is done.
Rich - ok
Rich - i'll use anohter pase bin
mark - I think I am going to make a Pastebin for gloriousdawn.org
Rich - [link]
mark - That isn't small. LOL
Rich - lol
mark - One sec. Err One min.
Rich - that's why i asked if you had a program
mark - What is ||
Rich - i wondered if you had a formatting program
Rich - i used to have one for foxpro, i loved that
mark - Save it as a text file, and open it in WordPad.
Rich - ok
Rich - looks the same
Rich - i don't have wordpad
Rich - just textedit and textwrangler
mark - Not using Microsoft Windows?
Rich - no, i have a mac
mark - Your getting full proper spacing, and the works.
mark - Gonna take a bit though. ;P
Rich - cool
Rich - the works
Rich - you'll notice that there is a kludge
Rich - there are two hyperlinks on the bottom, on the left and the right
Rich - i didn't want them
Rich - so i just make the stuff between the A empty
Rich - i wasn't confident enough to delete the actual href
Rich - so if you see that , don't go WTF!
mark - What a language.
Rich - almost as bad as applesccript
mark - This person has the worst god damn naming scheme ever.
mark - He's gotta run out of single letters to use for variables soon. LINE 350.
mark - And it crashed.
mark - Alright done.
Rich - nice
mark - Ugly.code
mark - I now love my scroll wheel.
mark - Can do up to 2,000 lines per scroll.
mark - Well, I can scroll that entire file and my wheel is still spinning.
Rich - did you put the file someplace?
mark - Oh yeah. Pastebin.
Rich - same url?
mark - [link]
Rich - nice
Rich - thanks
mark - Oh wow
mark - Could of just right clicked my name and "Send File". If you are on XChat
Rich - yeah
mark - Need a backup app?
Rich - nah
Rich - backups are for pussies
mark - && businesses
mark - Had to fix my first bug. How sweet. :)
Rich - your excited about bugs
mark - I don't get them very often.
mark - Linux Backup Daemon - 1.0.1
mark - Pushing
mark - Pushing
mark - Pushing
mark - Deflating <3> Root nodes.
mark - Processed <258> Files.
Rich - ok, you can see how the scroll is supposed to work now; [link]
mark - It isn't processing the correct amount of files.
Rich - watch it for a minute or two
mark - Watching.
mark - Oh nice.
Rich - sweet
Rich - what i did
Rich - was move MY stuff to the right sidebar
Rich - and then made the widgt work on a servies of OR words
Rich - search: 'webulite OR "Irenaeus" OR "Valentinus" OR "Tertullian" OR "historical jesus" OR "patristics" OR "polycarp" OR "Hegesippus" OR "earl doherty" OR "Clement of Alexandria" OR "Clement of Rome" OR "christianity"'
Rich - christianity is the one that is making it scroll
Rich - i will take that out
Rich - wanted to show you the nice scrolling though
Rich - the words I am keying on are all somewhat serious study words of phrases
mark - So, how many daily hits are you getting? To your site that is.
Rich - the idea is to have the page show tweets of people that are somewhat serious
Rich - i have no idea
mark - Keep track of them?
Rich - i think i may have set up some google analystics long time ago. but i don't even kniow where to find that
Rich - see how cool that is
Rich - that is fast enough to have conversatins like IRC
Rich - the key is to develope an APP that will always add @webulite when someone is posting from the app
mark - You could make an irc bot do that.
Rich - no you don;t understand
mark - Every time someone messages on irc, it gets redirected to twitter.
Rich - so your on the page now
mark - then the irc bot polls all the @webulite and posts it to irc.
Rich - now, if you clock on the 3 minutes ago
mark - but in a seperate app.
Rich - that takes you to the tweet
Rich - which is how people read them
Rich - now your off my world
Rich - so when they click REPLY the TO will be the person that did the tweet
Rich - they have to remember to by hand add @webulite
Rich - now.... you you are on my page
Rich - and hover mear the time
Rich - notice the REPLY that appears
Rich - click that
Rich - and youw ill see that it not only replys to te person that made the tweet
mark - It wants me to login. :(
Rich - but it adds a @webulite too
Rich - yeah, you ahve a account
Rich - it's a oauth
Rich - you just click on
Rich - ok
mark - No?
mark - It is asking me to login or join. I don't have an account that I can remember.
Rich - oh, the you would have to join
Rich - if you don't have a twotter account, why not get one
Rich - the longer you wait
Rich - the less likely you will get your real name
Rich - i mean, thank god I am Rich Griese and not Bob Smith
Rich - so i often get my name
mark - I won't be able to get my name.
Rich - you obviously you have not tweeted a lont
mark - It is one of the most popular ones in Canada.
Rich - so you don't see the screen areas that people know
Rich - like, hard to believe
Rich - but that small "7 minutes ago" is the link that takes you to the actual tweet the person made
Rich - make yourself a doctor
Rich - DrMarkLeBlanc
Rich - SirMarkLeBlanc
mark - I can just use my middle initial.
Rich - NeirDuelMarkLeBlanc
Rich - lol
Rich - KarenOleet profile
Rich - KarenOleet RT @Shoq: We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. -@annCoulter #p2 /Crusading spirit lives on
Rich - lol
Rich - Christian Dating Tips
Rich - Increase Size Of Your Penis Naturally including Advice Article Dating and How To Make A Thicker Penis
mark - Nice. Penn Jillette is following me.
mark - Or not.
mark - I tweeted.
Rich - what's your tweet name
mark - I deleted my first tweet. :D
mark - Mark_LeB
Rich - when you tweet do it @webulite then you can see how the thing works
Rich - nice
mark - I HAZ INVADED WEBULITZ
Rich - now see how you would READ your tweet from that page
Rich - and you will see the problem
Rich - once you go to your tweet
Rich - once there the REPLY will not add @webulite
Rich - click the 10 seconds ago
Rich - and that takes you to your tweet
mark - Enough of that. Like my stack implementation?
Rich - what language is that?
mark - Java.
mark - Like how the auto-expanding can violate contracts, and exponentially grow beyond the maximum capacity.
mark - Pretty pro am I right?
Rich - i wouldn't have a clue
mark - This is how Stacks work.
Rich - i can't figure out how to accept that
mark - [--Stack--]
mark - [ --File--]
mark - [ --File--]
mark - [Directory] --pop--> [--Directory--] --pop--> [--Directory--]
mark - [Directory] --pop--> [--Directory--] [ -- File -- ]
mark - [-- File --] [ -- File -- ]
mark - [-- File --] [ -- File --]
mark -
mark - Maximize to see properly
mark - Notice how all the "Directorys" get popped off to there own stack. Leaving each stack containing only the "Directory" header, and the files in it.
mark - We actually have to pop off all the items in the original stack. Since the general contract is First In Last Out
mark - We can only "Pop" off the top.
Rich - what is that code supposed to do
Rich - in english
Rich - i understand a stack
Rich - what are you putting files and directories on a stack for?
Rich - what is the overall purpose of the application?
mark - The overall purpose of the application is to make a stateful backup every night.
mark - The reason for stacks is I can serialize them. Which enables me to resume a compression or detect failures. Etc
Rich - "stateful backup"?
mark - IE: Power goes out mid backup. Instead of waiting till the next night to resume backup and being left with a corrupt archive
mark - I can retrieve the last completed stack and continue on.
mark - Or if a user wants to pause mid-backup, etc.
Rich - got it
Rich - who are you writing this for?
mark - The company I work for.
Rich - how long does their backup take?
mark - Takes about 2 hours.
Rich - nice
mark - I'm also trying to optimize as much as possible to drop that down.
mark - 2 hours was with a prototype of my app.
Rich - what do they do if it fails now? just immeidatly start again?
mark - The standard winzip took about 3 hours.
mark - Nope, it runs on the next scheduled interval. So the next night.
mark - If it crashes on a friday night, it won't run again till monday night.
mark - Each time the computer starts up though, it looks for a 'lock.lck' file. If it exists, the computer knows that the previous backup failed.
mark - Once my application finishes properly. It deletes the lock.lck file.
mark - However, it is an intensive process to backup 15+ gigs of data across a network and to multiple points. So we don't want the server to be running a full blown backup in the morning when we start work.
mark - So that is why I am implementing a 'state' system. So it only finishes what it needs to. Hopefully not taking up much time.
Rich - cool
mark - Processed <51> Directories.
mark - Saved 1. Wtf
Rich - penn of penn & teller is following you
mark - No
mark - I hit the wrong button.
mark - I hit "Following", not "Followers".
Rich - yeah, that nomenclature is fucked up
Rich - i have to think it through every fucking time I use it
mark - Yeah it is weird.
Rich - they wanted one words obviously
Rich - should have been Friends and followers
Rich - i bet there are whole meetings to consider if they should change that every week
Rich - or
Rich - YouLike / LikedBy
mark - Alright, just tested my stack.
mark - Pushing node to < 1>

mark - That works right.
mark - Woohoo
mark - Processed <1989> Files.
mark - Processed <734> Directories.
mark - That looks better.
mark - Rich!
Rich - hey there
Rich - what's going down
mark - Not too much.
mark - Working on my user interface.
mark - This is quite funny. Lol
Rich - isn't there just a big button
Rich - GO
Rich - maybe two buttons
Rich - 1) GO
Rich - 2) For help, read the bible
mark - Compression Type. Input Locations. Network Output Locations. Local Output Locations. Use System Scheduler. ETC
mark - However, the context menu function in linux is funny.
Rich - i bet
mark - [link]
mark - They are stuck. lol
Rich - you mean, all those change/removes?
Rich - try hiding the window and then bringing it back
Rich - or better, minimize the window and bring it back
mark - I fixed it.
mark - Just the standard way of doing it on Windows, doesn't quite work on Linux.
mark - Gotta go pick up a few things. Be back in a bit.
Rich - enjoy life
Rich - eat out more often
oye - hi.
Rich - cheers
Rich - it's funny, webulite really have two sides
Rich - you have the side that encourages the study of religion and history
Rich - but you find that the channel folks that come in and out, or hang are all programmers and tech types
Rich - like last night everything was about javascript, and stacks for backups
oye - haha, that's great, diversity makes fun :)
Rich - lol
oye - hah, nice.
oye - so, you are a christian?
Rich - i am not a supernaturalist of any kind
Rich - my interest in the subject is the study of history
Rich - and my interest in history, i giuess if it had to have a big picture aspect would then feed into politics
Rich - my interst i it
Rich - politics in the general sense
oye - oooh, good! So I don't have to stand alone in front of enraged crowds of christians trying to show me how their beliefes are the absolute truth! :)
Rich - as will durrant uses the term of politics "the study of the ideal form of human organization"
oye - yes, totally, history of religion, special mention to the roman-catholicism, is totaly linked to politics and other forms of mass control.
Rich - no, there are plenty of IRC channels were people can sceeam at each other about supernaturalistic speculation
Rich - for me, i would work to research if polycarp was a historical or literary figure
Rich - but I will not talk about if the gods endorse his views
Rich - unfortunately often even scholars in the NT and religion field mix in supernaturalistic speculation in the field
Rich - they do this because often they are supernaturaists themselves using the field to promote their cults views
Rich - or, they do it because supernaturalistic stuff sells, and that is how the industry rasises money
oye - well, as for the greek and roman and other polytheistic religions of antiquity, I must admit I'm not very well prepared to argue about it.
Rich - even major universities are basically shams for raising money
Rich - and will put on basically crap so that christians support them financially
oye - well, many universities were founded by christian religious groups.
Rich - very true
Rich - during a time where science was being accepted by the world
Rich - and these groups felt they really needed to get into the game
Rich - so they said "shit, if the world is gonna now get their info from universities
Rich - we need universities that will promote our supernaturaliism
oye - and among the very oldest universties and faculties in the world, they all are linked to a religion or another, as in the past, the monks and monasteries were the only places were study of anything could be given.
Rich - true, if you look at the middle ages you will see nothing but supernaturalistic speculation
Rich - no football games
Rich - no books on how to build a shet
Rich - shed
Rich - no books on anything but supernaturalistic speculation
Rich - so yes, supernaturalist has had a great head start in it's marketing program
oye - in the middle ages, as far as I can recall, possesing a Bible was actualy a crime!
Rich - so as science is now becoming to dominate world view for people
Rich - many supernaturalists are raging
Rich - many are actually going undercover into universities to attemp to APPEAR like scientists, yet long term promote supernaturalism
Rich - it is pretty amazing
Rich - for example, you will find that more and more protestent 'scholars' are avoiding the word "supernaturalist"
oye - as religion does not have answers to each and every thing, so science won't. Of course, promoting the cientific research and encouraging the youth to get involved in it, will be proved healthy for the future of mankind, as long as we use the science in a right way.
Rich - they want to appear to be reasonable and logical
oye - but there will always be things which we cannot explain, I don't think science can answer EVERYTHING as some may claim.
Rich - so they hide that they actually have underlying assumptions believing in gods and other supernaturalistic things
Rich - they actively try to hide this
Rich - then they write books that claims things like the raising of jesus from the dead is reasonable and logical
Rich - and since they had hidden they are actually supernaturalists
oye - well, I think many high-ranked religious people stick to God and dogma for the economic and political reasons, not that they have faith anymore, if they ever did.
Rich - these books are then promoted as educated learning
Rich - instead of simply supernaturalistic promotion, which is what they really are
Rich - then the public buys them and says "look, even the scholars say that it is reasonable to believe jesus rose from the dead"
Rich - it is a pretty interveined mutual support system
oye - the main point of any form of cult, always, but always was, to control the big horde of sheeps, where sheeps to be understood as hard-working normal tax-payer people. So to say, the people, the citizenship.
Rich - the problem is dealing with a living cult
Rich - we can study ancient egypt
Rich - but it is hard for a society to study it's currently active cult
Rich - we can talk about hercules with sanity
Rich - we have a hard time examining jesus with sanity
oye - oh, speaking of Jesus
oye - right now I'm reading this: [link]
Rich - the fundamental thing is that it is the ACTIVE cult of the society
Rich - yes, i have seen that in the past
Rich - i have been trying to accumulate some of those things for posterity in the site library
Rich - brb, off to get a cup of joe
oye - take your time.
oye - :)
Rich - i am in USA, NJ
Rich - where are you
oye - Alicante, Spain.
Rich - nice, so it is about 10pm your time?
Rich - your 5 hours ahead I think, or at least england is
oye - 23:10 :)
Rich - fucking computer geek
Rich - most people say 11pm
Rich - computer geeks say 23 hundred hours
Rich - it's like the military
oye - haha
Rich - lol
oye - oh, man, this is Europe. Continental Europe
oye - you gotta talk to me in centimetters, and kilograms :)
oye - and kilometers
Rich - lol, yeah
Rich - but does socoety there say i'll meey you at the bar att 22 hundred hours
Rich - or do they say "i meet you there at 10 oclock"
Rich - ok, no I am really going for that coffee
oye - just a second, I'm gonna move on the terrace, so I can enjoy the bad habbit of smoking.
oye - ok, here I am
oye - usualy we say 10 clock, but sometimes, we do use 22.
oye - if you ask me at 8pm "hey, can we see tonight in the pub and have a beer?" and I'm taking a look at my clock to tell you in how much time I can meet, and it happends my clock to be a digital one, prolly I'll tell you 22 instead of 10
Rich - back
Rich - what kind of programming / development do yo do?
mark - Did I hear stacks and backups. <3
Rich - lol
mark - Speaking of which. I fixed my stack implementation and most of the backup system.
mark - Visual interface is being the pain now. ;)
Rich - yeah
mark - Don't be hating on the 24 hour clock.
mark - I've always used it.
mark - 19:11:12 here.
Rich - yeah, many military / computer people do
Rich - i was just wondering if he was saying that regulr citizens in spain and the continent do too
mark - I don't understand the abstract reasoning behind wrapping the time over at 12.
oye - Rich sometimes, they do. Not very common, though. And I'm refeering to non-geek/militar people.
mark - "Geek" is such a loose term now.
mark - It used to refer to someone with huge spectacles that sat in there basement all day typing assembly.
mark - Now it is just anyone who can login to Facebook properly, pretty much.
Rich - actually it used to refer to circus performers that bit the heads off chickens
mark - Don't know about that, but I mean its recent usages in the technical sense up to the early - mid 2,000's.
oye - hah
mark - Truly though, geek means nothing more than an excessive amount of knowledge in a specific field.
Rich - another good term is fanatic
mark - Yeah
mark - I've also heard 'buff' used.
mark - Automotive buff.
mark - Or whore.
Rich - originally it was a cult that used to walk through the streets and publically whip themselves
mark - I prefer whore. I'm a code whore.
oye - and why not a happy coder? :)
mark - I am happy when I make more then a dime per hour. ;)
mark - Right now I am in the midst of developing a set of applications, in which to self publish and use for my portfolio.
mark - Hopefully catch the attention of some company.
mark - Or become a self made millionaire /sarcasm
oye - you can sell your soul to the devil. Like, work for Microsoft or Apple.
mark - I wouldn't have any problems with working for them.
oye - nah, me either, it was just a joke
mark - You are a programmer aswell?
oye - hm, I'm more into sysadministering, security.. Rather than programming from scratch, I intent to make many programms work togheter :)
mark - Both excellent fields.
oye - yeah, well, each field has it's + and - :)
mark - Well certainly. I don't think there is any profession that doesn't have a negative.
mark - One would be naive to make such an assumption.
oye - indeed
mark - Though, that isn't to say that there are no jobs with a severe lack of negatives.
mark - IE: The owner of "PlentyOfFish.com" maintains the site solo and only spends an hour or two a day on it. Yet brings in millions.
oye - but he is plenty of fish
oye - :)
Rich - i like apple
Rich - and the red mask of death, held dominion, over them all
Rich - quick where is that from
Rich - RIGHT
Rich - edgar allan poe
mark - Programming interfaces by hand is fun.
mark - I usually use an IDE to do it.
Rich - yeah
mark - [link]
Rich - i would change "Daemon" to "System"
mark - Why? It is a background service or "daemon".
Rich - just my suggestion
mark - There is no visual aspect to it aside from the settings box.
mark - What do you think of the design?
Rich - is the input locations the things that are getting backed up?
mark - Yes.
Rich - and the output locations the locations the backups go?
mark - Yes.
Rich - i would change that toe "items to backup"
mark - I tried, but it is long and stretches past the list box. Looks ugly.
Rich - well "inputs" are not necessary related to "backups"
Rich - so the mental link can be lost
Rich - perhaps "backup inputs"
Rich - and "output location"
Rich - output is clear cause it is a "backup systesm"
Rich - so the output will be backups
mark - I was thinking of renaming that to: Archive Locations.
Rich - then you should change the title to "universal archieve system"
Rich - why is universal needed?
mark - Perhaps the first one to Backup Data
mark - Across all platforms.
mark - "Platform Independent Backup Daemon" didn't quite have the same ring to it. ;P
Rich - who are the users?
mark - It will work on Mac, Windows, Linux, Unix, etc.
Rich - are they programmers or marketing type people?
mark - No.
mark - Companys who wish to backup data in an easy, intuitive and scheduled manner. With reliability and quality. ;)
Rich - companies don't press buttons
Rich - who in the companies will press the buttons?
mark - The nerd that works for them does. ;P
Rich - programmers or non-programmers?
mark - It depends. Large companies will have I.T departments whom will I hope use my application. Smaller companies just have some random joe blow run my application.
Rich - then perhaps the title of "multi platform backup"
Rich - and then "backup inputs"
Rich - "backup outputs"
mark - I actually dislike the two words: Input, and Output.
Rich - well, that is a problem
Rich - since a PROCESS has inputs and outputs
Rich - but this is a problem most systems have
Rich - you should not even be deciding the labels
Rich - your companies marketing department should
mark - Note: I do not work for a software development company.
Rich - does you company have a sales or marketing department?
mark - My company is completely unrelated to software development in any way.
Rich - so it does have a marketing bepartment you mean
mark - I happen to be a programmer, that works for them. My job description doesn't really involve software development.
mark - I'm their I.T guy, and assistant. We just set up a server platform, and they decided they needed a backup solution. So I opted to develop it for them.
Rich - i would call the head of marketing and say "I am just finishing a backup product, and I was hoping you could send one of your people over to help me add labels to the screen that will make sense to the user"
mark - They won't be getting the licenses to it.
Rich - you will be liked by him, and you will get outside input from a person that is closer to the users
mark - For my company. I will be the one using the application.
Rich - i thought you said, it will be used by other companies
mark - I'm in charge of managing the server, and backup solutions.
mark - Yes.
Rich - your being difficult
Rich - why ask me my view, if you want to argue when I give it to you
mark - I think we are both on a different page. ;P
mark - My company doesn't have a marketing department. It can't.
mark - I work for a land surveying outfit, which is not allowed to self 'advertise'.
Rich - then how will this program get from your company to another company?
mark - That is not its intended purpose.
Rich - i thught you said it will be used by other companies
mark - I am writing, designing, and distributing this application myself. However, the company I work for just happens to be getting the first copy.
mark - Eventually, yes. I hope.
Rich - ok
Rich - then it really doesn't matter
Rich - since you are the only user
mark - However, I can't advertise a product without labels. I don't have a marketing, or advertising department on hand. So I am trying to make it
mark - user-friendly so that I can advertise it properly.
Rich - if you eventually sell it to someone else, then you can rethink what the labels should be
Rich - but your dislike of the terms input and output, i would talk to a marketing person to before you attempt to distribute the product to "the world"
mark - Well. What happens when I leave my company. Then they are left with an application that they paid for, that has shit like "Input location".
Rich - input and out are what people stand "things" or "processes" to do
Rich - i told, you, i would change them
mark - Yes, but if I. An end-user opened an application that was supposed to be "user-friendly" and I saw Input location. I would delete and request a refund.
Rich - to "multplatfor backup system"
Rich - backup inputs
Rich - and backup outputs
mark - Any other ideas?
Rich - what is the "network"
Rich - is that the choice of platforms that will get backuped?
mark - Streaming the archive to other computers on the network, or elsewhere.
mark - Seperate de-centralized storage computers. ;)
Rich - what is the difference between that and the output locations?
mark - That is the form for adding, removing and modifying output locations.
mark - IE: Address, Port, Location, Etc
Rich - then i would rename it to "output details"
mark - When you choose an output location in the list. It will auto-switch to the network tab and show the networking details of that location.
Rich - that way there is a link between "output locations" and "output details"
mark - Yeah, but it also contains settings to do with just the network setup. Not just the output locations.
Rich - ie, the word output
Rich - why not move them to the compression tab
Rich - then rename compression to setting details
Rich - or just details
mark - Compression tab deals with archive type ( Zip, Tar, Tar.GZ ), Compression rate, etc.
Rich - right, details
Rich - move the stuff not involved with location from network to compressiontab
Rich - then rename compression to details, and network to output locations
Rich - location
Rich - then you have; general, schedule, details, output locations
Rich - perhaps even output details
Rich - iof the details are specific to one output archive
Rich - that would imply that each output have to have two tabs dealt with
Rich - the output details, and the output locations
mark - We are neglecting Input Locations.
mark - I think "Backup Media" is a more fitting label.
mark - To represent the "Media" to be backed up.
Rich - why not files, it has one less letters
mark - Your not always backing up "Files". More often it is Directories.
mark - I know, the average users sees them both as the same thing.
mark - I just don't want to be narrow.
Rich - since they actually are
Rich - aren't directories actually stored as files?
Rich - at least on the mac they are
mark - I would think of directories as more of a theoretical structure to represent the location of a file. Just visualized to enforce that concept.
Rich - you are a programmer
Rich - that is why you are asking me, a user, his views
Rich - again, that is the problem with almost all systems
mark - I mean essentially a file is just a "Absolute Path/File". The directory structure just enables us to visualize the "Absolute Path".
Rich - first, they allow programmers to label things
mark - ;P
Rich - second, they allow the same person that MAKES a thing to write the labels/instructions
Rich - both are bad ideas
mark - I'm not disagreeing with you. However I certainly can't make a decision on one persons advice. I am just throwing ideas into the pool; as you are.
mark - I'll be talking to quite a few people, and I will mention ideas that are, and aren't mine. Eventually I will get an idea of what most people will entertain, and what they won't.
mark - Though for now, I just want to keep it simplistic and not too nerdy. Until I can come up with some absolute names for them.
Rich - a good book to read, you can read it in a single lunchtime, is called _don't make me thing_
Rich - think
mark - ;P I've heard of it.
Rich - [link]
Rich - put a "blow job" button on it
Rich - everyone likes a blow job
mark - Lol'd
Rich - maybe instead "handjob"
Rich - and then a offer to "upgrade to blog job"
mark - Just installed my printer with the wrong driver.
mark - It worked. :D
Rich - i used to have, but no longer do
Rich - a fake driver that would "print" to a text file
Rich - that was very handy
Rich - i should set that up again
Rich - but that is a very low priority
mark - I have one, but it prints to a pdf file.
Rich - mades to that automatically
Rich - macs
mark - Yea, so does windows.
mark - I think.
Rich - yeah... now they all do i guess
Rich - but macs had it for a number of years before windows folks had that option, and we all laughed at them
Rich - those poor fools grasping in the dark
mark - There are 14 classes required to render that interface.
mark - I am using the Builder pattern to construct them.
mark - For each additional panel, I need to create the builder, and the adaptor.
mark - The builder provides the layout, design, instantiation. The adaptor provides the listeners and command handlers.
mark - THIS IS FOR ONE FUCKING SETTINGS INTERFACE
mark - My other project is going to be a dandy.
Rich - a stepford wife?
mark - Intelligent Office Solutions: Encompasses Databases, Employee management, Client management, Accounting, Mathematical Graphs, Charts. Etc.
Rich - add an espresso machine
mark - I might as well.
mark - That is going to be quite the project. Hopefully I will get to that next summer.
mark - Or during the christmas holidays. I should be able to put a dent into it.
mark - We get about a week or two off. People don't usually need land surveyors in the winter. ;P
mark - Alright. Good night. I have done enough for now.
Rich - cheers
mark - Tomorrows goals are to: Implement Configuration persistence. Refactor compression routines.
mark - away
oye - Good morning, folks.
Rich - cheers
Rich - what's going down?
Rich - my library site is starting to SING!
Rich - or at least it is becoming more and more as I want it
Rich - i just emailed the twitlonger.com folks to see if they can offer a RSS user feed. If I got that, it would make my life ever cooler
Rich - any site that I can make an RSS feed of, I can auto add to my local site
Rich - if I got the twitlonger RSS feed, it means that everthing I typed into the internet would get added to my local wiki
oye - what's the site? :)
Rich - [link]
oye - heh, not much, I just woke up, I'm having a blasting coffee, and when I'm done, I have to move on, go to the bank, pay some bills, the daily wtf
oye - ah, webulite, 'kay.
Rich - well, there are two webulite sites
Rich - webulite.com is the main forum
Rich - webulite.webhop.org is my local computer
Rich - behind a port 8080 (verizon sucks) thingy
oye - ACTION jumps in Rich's library
oye - you wrote all that? or there is some copying/pasting also.
Rich - losts of copy and pasting
Rich - the site is sort of my collection attempt
Rich - when I find stuff I think will be useful, i try to clip it, and then use the wiki functions to try to organize it
Rich - pus there are some concepts
Rich - for example, i post interesting stuff once or twice a day a google buzz items
Rich - so they can put in the buzz namespace
oye - you americans, you must hyperlink to amazon! we never do that, haha :)
Rich - i download reuters news cuase theiur site takes millions of yers for me to load
Rich - so you find the reuters news stories in the NEWS namespace
Rich - when I find other really good blogs, I add them to the BLOGS name space
oye - well, reuters is the biggest fresh news resources
Rich - and then the root is sort of my collectons of info on early christianity and general religion
Rich - i have some kind of error with reuters
Rich - my borhter says the pges load fine for him
Rich - a reuters page takes like 60 seconds to even load for me
oye - reuters loads fine for me also
Rich - so I have a RSS feed, and I check it once a minute
oye - decent, maybe sometimes up to 10 sec, but blah, that's nothing.
Rich - and then curl the item into a text file, and add it to the wiki
Rich - that way i don't have to load it when I read it
Rich - i also clean the page, so that i get pretty much just the story
Rich - i do that with most stuff I read
Rich - i run a program that checks various RSS feeds
Rich - then curls new items, and cleans then into pretty much just text on a white page
Rich - then I read my queue
oye - microsoft_hopes_to_bury_iphone_android
oye - now, that's a LOL
Rich - which is here [link]
Rich - that way pages are always ready for me, when I want to read them, and they are clean
Rich - it's like having a butler that preprocesses myshit for me
Rich - plus then i have a local copy of stuff, and I can search on it, and then provide other's with a pointer to it, if I want to use it in a discussion
oye - meh, I'm not good at web coding, but why don't you just implenet a small RSS reader on your web, so you don't have to c/p anything?
Rich - i have always been a collector
Rich - i want to copy it
Rich - then it is avaialble for text search
Rich - i basically just delete files after the are 30 days old
Rich - except for the root directory wiki items which are my longer term notes
oye - yeah, but I don't know, getting your news only from reuters, it's like getting short, with a rss reader, you can provide more websites, like slashdot, or linux.com or any other big daily newspaper from everywhere.
Rich - i've never been unaware of any story
Rich - i try to limit how much time I spend reading news
Rich - most newpapers get their info from AP, CP, and UPI anyway, so they are all publishing the same basic data
oye - I got that, but if you want me to use your website as a link for news, you gotta give me more, however, my case is just an example, I'm putting up an example.
Rich - i don't really have the news for anyone else
Rich - it's just for me
oye - well, the news are the same, kinda, yes, but the editorials are not, and there are also local news.
oye - :)
Rich - i don't read editorials
Rich - also, trying to make a news collection is a bad idea
oye - I'm interested in the editorials more than in the news themselvs.
Rich - if you tell someone that the NY Times is the best news paper they will say the SF chronical is
Rich - news is something that google news has worked out fine
Rich - people don't need my web site for news
Rich - i simply download the stories cause of the euters page loading problem
Rich - and since I do, i might as well allow others to read them
oye - I don't read NY Times, rarely I did, when some other notice linked me there.
Rich - the read GOAL of the wiki is to have folks use the pages in the ROOT
oye - I don't know my taste on the american press, but probably sure I will like any right-wing major newspaper.
Rich - to become educated about general christian history
Rich - well, i live in NH, so the NY Times is the big paper in the area
Rich - i mean, for intellegent people
Rich - idiots read the NY Post and the Daily news
oye - haha, ok, ok. Good to know, thanks for the tip.
oye - what's your political stand-on? Dems or Reps?
Rich - i sympathize more the the democratic view
Rich - to me the republiicans simply want to destroy the government
Rich - i don't mean make it bad
Rich - i mean, literally eliminate it
Rich - the idea of a nation state operating without a government
Rich - would be like going back to the dark ages
Rich - so I thik their world view is simply insame
oye - no, the idea of a nation state operating without a gov is called Anarchy, and no, I don't think the Republicans might want to lead America to there. That would be counter-productive for their intereses and asstes.
Rich - yes, bascially the republicans sell the idea of anarchy plus
Rich - but they want to for example eliminate the department of education
Rich - also, i thik the idea of the state (US term) is no longer needed
Rich - we no longer need New Jersey or Rhode Island
Rich - we have the entity called the USA
Rich - we do not need BOTH state and federal governments being indeendent
oye - well, thats leads to dictatorship, not anarchy
oye - :)
Rich - i am not worried
Rich - i am a US citizens
Rich - so
Rich - i want ALL people in the US to have the same rights
oye - it's utopian to believe US will ever be a dictatorship
Rich - i don;t want gay people to be able to marry in wisconson nut not florida
oye - at least seen from Europe.
Rich - so i see a problem with state governments
oye - what US really and urgently needs, and I mean it does
oye - is a social security system.
Rich - republicans want to eliminate social security
oye - of course they do.
oye - they want their private insurance company to suck it all.
oye - but thats just NOT ok.
oye - giving monopoly to the private over something so serious as the national health system it's insane. It's like, no, you can't do that.
oye - you cannot enforce me to get a private insurance, that's bullshit.
oye - and it only work in the US, sorry to say that.
Rich - just added a RichGriese folkder off the INDEX
Rich - you can read some of my past writings
Rich - check out "break the USA up", and "a new america"
oye - aha
oye - well, I gotta move on, thanks for the chat and hope to ttyl.
Rich - enjoy life
Rich - each other more often
Rich - anyone up?
oye - no :)
oye - hehe, yep.
Rich - ;)
Rich - gonna try to get another of my reguliar friends to start hanging in this channel today
Rich - if he comes into work
oye - oh, good. Unity makes the force!
Rich - my the schwartz be with you
oye - thought I'm not sure if we belong to the darkside or to the republic :)
Rich - at a certain point I can see this channel actually drawing some additional people
Rich - and here is why
Rich - since we are seeding it with folks that are computer nerds
Rich - that really becomes a very good resource
Rich - you don't realize how much
Rich - but there are many bloggers that are not very computer literate
Rich - and if they could come into a channel and occassionally get general help
Rich - the kind of help that you or I could offer, without even thinking about it
Rich - the next thing you know they will want to hang a bit
Rich - just to get some of the computer knowledge rubbing off on them
Rich - then, the next thing you know we have three regulairs that write on archeology, and two that write on greek classics, and 5 that write on the middle ages, all hanging out
oye - ok, all we are missing is a porn writer, no?
Rich - then, when that happens, each of them will invite one or two of their friends, and at that point we have a very popular, troll free general purpose community
Rich - no
Rich - porn photographer
Rich - i should talk to mark about a utility
Rich - i thik I have written this in the past, and could reproduce it
Rich - but I have the writter addr webulite
Rich - i can run a script that would check it's followers list
Rich - and grab tweets from them as they come in
Rich - then make a bot called |- (a short nick) tht sits here
Rich - and posts those tweets into the channel
Rich - perhaps make it so that it only works when there have been no activeity for 5 minutes of more
Rich - so that it does not interupt convo f it is happening
oye - or have a -start/-stop function.
Rich - but then folks could sort of "join the community" by simply following webulite on twitter
Rich - i am obsessed with the dynamics of a community
Rich - social networking really has not accomplished that yet
Rich - it is good, like with twitter, for gather 50 or even 300 "followers"
Rich - but people never really talk to their followers
Rich - the are reading a bunch of crap they are not really interested in
Rich - i am a believer in the email concept
Rich - your FRIENDS are really only people that you can call up your address book, and send an email
Rich - if you don't know a persons email address, they are not really a FRIEND
Rich - my goal is to make that FRIEND based community
Rich - not just a follower based community
Rich - sort of like the old email mailing list
oye - you want 300 folks sitting around the same table and actively communicating between each other.
Rich - but taking advantage of all the tools that have come out since
Rich - right
Rich - addressing each other
Rich - real time
Rich - not just leaving a stupid blog comment
Rich - there are two aspects
oye - hrm, I guess newsgroup were made for it.
oye - *newsgroups
Rich - you need to be able to speak at your 9am and someone else reads it at their 9am
Rich - but that should be a 2nd choice
Rich - the first thing you should think when on someone's blog, and you are ready to leave a comment is
Rich - hey, is there anyone talking about this RIGHT NOW?
Rich - so you check the chat FIRST
Rich - and only if there is no one there, do you then post a comment
Rich - that gets read later
Rich - you famliar with how blogspot and the various ones do comments
Rich - where a 2nd window sometimes pops up and you enter your comment
oye - hm, no, look, it depends. Real time interacting is, of course, very good (at least my self I find it useful), but it can never give the user the amount of time and space to hold deep argumentations as you would do writing as submitting an email to a newsgroup.
Rich - well imagine if that window had two sides
Rich - the first sides the one side is the comment entry, but the second side was the chat scrool
Rich - so that as you are writing your comment, youw ould be aware that there are actually people talking about the subject that second
Rich - yeah, don't get me wrong, I am not a IRC head
Rich - i see irc working with blogs
Rich - so that you are always writing your thoughts out in complete form
Rich - but then when you submit it to your blog
Rich - that url posts in the channel
oye - could be, but the point of a blog entry it's not to be commented in real time, I guess.
Rich - there is commenting and discussing
Rich - often if you subscribe to blog comments
oye - well, for discussing, irc could work with just, everything, but at a low/mid level.
Rich - youy will see that someone makes a comment
Rich - and a minut laer someone comments on that comment
Rich - and then the original commentor comments back the next minute
oye - sure, that's why IRC was invented for. :)
Rich - in reality at that point, those people are using blog comments as a chat
oye - s/why/what
Rich - so at that point, they should move to chat
Rich - you could even integate it into the comment RSS
Rich - if you start delivering ema comment alerts on a single essays
Rich - in a short enough tme period
Rich - at the bottom of the email alert
Rich - a link to the chat gets addded
Rich - that implies "look you morons, you are discussing this real time, so move to chat and do it right"
oye - hrm, no, not always the chat could be the right thing.
Rich - my goal, sort term is to adjust my group chat link, so the person does not even have to fill in a nickname
Rich - it just gives them Guestxx and puts them right in
Rich - right now, i am using mibbit to take them here
Rich - but i can't force that link to auto give them a nick
Rich - and almost all the people hit the "choose a nick" page, and then back off
oye - I'm quite lost about irc technology straight from the web. I hate it and I avoid it as much as I can.
Rich - yeah, but most people don't have irc
Rich - so i need to find a single click way of getting them there
oye - well, check on sites like sourceforge of freshmeat
Rich - if they come three days in a row, the we can teach them how to get a irc client
oye - probably there you could find some good resources
Rich - but to introduce them to the concept, i want a single click entry mechanism
Rich - yeah, i have downloaded and installed a numver of irc cients
Rich - my problem is that my server is on port 8080
Rich - so i can't always count on people haveing that port open to hit the page to get the code to load and run
Rich - but it's one of those things I am always thinking about
Rich - apparently I have thought others don't have :)
Rich - cause I asked mark, who I think is a java programmer, amoung other things
Rich - if there is a java script that would allow me to do a irc window
Rich - i discovered you can store java script on google docs
Rich - so that is a server not behind 8080
Rich - and my main webulite.com page is runniing on blogspot
Rich - which is not behind 8080
Rich - so if there was a link on blogspot, START CHAT, that grabbed the java from google docs and ran it, they could do it all without my 8080 server being involved
oye - ok, i never thought about that
oye - :)
oye - however, that would mean, your blogspot chat, when clicked, goes to your google docs count, where it starts the java script, which autoruns and loads the web irc client from your webpage? but all in the blogspot main.
Rich - well, no
Rich - the java script would launch a new popup window and size it to like 800 x 400 so that your chat would be independent
oye - or you want to store the web irc client on your google docs?
Rich - right
Rich - that I can do
Rich - if it is a javascript file
Rich - and javascript files can start a new window
oye - most of them are java-made.
Rich - so, now I just need to get java script client to connet to my irc server assign a GUESTXX nick, and hve it join this room
Rich - and WHAM that's it
Rich - i know
Rich - but as we are saying
oye - well, some clients, by default, assign random Guest nicknames.
Rich - most of them are not doing what i want to do
Rich - or i would just use one
Rich - yeah, irc_cgi and an other php based bot i wrote do that
Rich - that will be easy
Rich - the new thing for me is doing any javascript coding at all
Rich - other than taking an existing script and changing 20 or thirty characters ;)
oye - ah, I see :)
Rich - i am just a knob
oye - you know, knowledge is power! the more you know, better for you. And it applies very well in the IT field.
Rich - yeah
oye - I'm reading your 'Break the USA up into individual states'
oye - The real difficulty is with the vast wealth and power in the hands of
oye - the few and the unscrupulous who represent or control capital. Hundreds
oye - of laws of Congress and the state legislatures are in the interest of
oye - these men and against the interests of workingmen. These need to be
oye - exposed and repealed. All laws on corporations, on taxation, on trusts,
oye - wills, descent, and the like, need examination and extensive change.
oye - This is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people
oye - no longer. It is a government of corporations, by corporations, and for
oye - corporations. How is this?
oye - --Rutherford B. Hayes
oye - I like it.
mark -
mark -
mark - Really?
mark - I can do that. ;)
mark - Rich. Away?
Rich - good morning
oye - hey, Sir!
oye - I had to quit, resetting the systems :P
Rich - what's going down
mark - Ah. Good evening.
oye - hello mark
mark - I just watched a video of two guys climbing a near 1700 foot tower. Free climbing.
mark - Hello oye.
oye - 1700, how much's that in christian language? I mean, in metric volume :)
mark - 518 or so
oye - oh, woo.
mark - Half a kilometre straight up. ;P Without safety gear ( Except a little clip they use when they want a break. )
mark - It must be hard for them to lug there massive balls around.
oye - do you know what parkour is?
mark - Yes.
oye - you should try it sometimes ;)
mark - No thanks.
oye - lol.
oye - I used to practice almost on a daily basis for over two years, then some things changed in my life and I had to focus more on other things, but still, now and then, when I get free time and the required mood, I go out and have some.
mark - I'm not saying I am fat and lazy. But I am fat and lazy.
oye - HAHA, sorry, I didn't meant that. You don't need to be fat and lazy to reject the idea of parkour, some people just.. don't.
oye - so you are into sports, I shall believe.
oye - *are not
mark - Nope.
oye - Baaaad
mark - I work 8 - 12 hours a day, in the middle of the woods lugging over 100 pounds of gear in the heat and cold. I really don't feel like doing stuff like that afterwards.
oye - haha, mate, lol! you are already doing "sport".
mark - So I think I have earned the right to be 'fat and lazy' when I am at home.
oye - yessir
oye - I mean, lazy yes, fat no.
mark - I feel like a fat ass sometimes.
mark - 19:56:50 I need to get some code written.
oye - 0:57 here, heh.
oye - I feel like I need some sleep.
mark - I really need to start making some money off software development.
mark - I miss the days of staying up all night and day to finish off some code, guzzling energy drinks and cigarettes.
oye - no, I don't miss that. I'm in it, well, I'm not coding, and the project I'm in is totally out of the techie field, but still, got to be in front of the computer, brainstorm, sum up ideas, call people, ye know, the typical. And then, dang, I need my moment of relax, a time to spend with my own self, but I don't have time to enjoy it because I fall asleep.
mark - I loved it. I just didn't make any money doing it. Though I was young and foolish. Developing software that really didn't apply to the 'real world'.
oye - money is necesarry, but the point is to have fun and be at peace with one self. Just because you didn't make any money of doesn't make you foolish.
mark - Money is horrid. The world would be a much better place without it. However...
mark - I considered myself foolish, not due to the fact that I wasn't making an income. Rather the software I was developing, and the time spent on it was not on something worth while.
mark - Wasting ones time, is much more devastating then someones money.
mark - Time is our most valuable asset, and extremely limited. Currently.
mark - Well this has me stumped. :(
mark - Adding state to file compression is difficult.
mark - I must have my Pause button though.
Rich - oye, don't panic, just trying to make it so that anyone that comes to find us on freenode, eventually adds this server to their list, and doesn't keep going back to the freenode server
Rich - that way we rally in one place
Rich - cheers
Harold_parker - fuckin finally
Rich - lol
Rich - what kind of stuff do you study within christianity
Harold_parker - well i studied it a bit at school
Harold_parker - just some of the early scripture stuff
Harold_parker - and a bit of the nag hammadi stuff
Harold_parker - only superficially
Harold_parker - just general theory
Harold_parker - everything else has just been out of interest
Rich - cool
Harold_parker - i dropped out of arts at uni
Harold_parker - into engineering
Rich - cool, more job options there
Harold_parker - so i don't really have any spare electives to pursue it in an academic way
Harold_parker - lol true
Harold_parker - but i still muck around with esword
Harold_parker - looking at the greek & hebrew
Harold_parker - comparing with english translations
Harold_parker - read the dictionary words on the greek & hebrew
Harold_parker - (i don't know either languages)
Rich - me neither
Rich - i don't that is really necessary
Rich - there are many translations avaiable
Harold_parker - yeh
Harold_parker - i wouldn't mind learning hebrew tbh tho
Rich - and the idea that we could learn enough greek
Harold_parker - aye
Rich - to outthink the folks that do that for a living is pretty stupid to me
Rich - if there is some problem
Rich - usually the industry say, some translate it this way, and others translate it this way
Rich - so any anomolies also we are alerted to
Rich - i have found that encouraging epople to learn greek is a scam
Rich - usually it is done by folks that want people to not read other stuff
Rich - so they encourag them to learn greek
Rich - cause they tell them it is important to understand the writings of paul
Rich - so folks spend months trying to read the letter to the romans in greek
Rich - it would be better for them to spend that time reading the early church fathers writing in english
Rich - most people never read anything outside the bible
Rich - or perhaps a page of two fro the dead sea scrools
Rich - or the gospel of thmas
Rich - much more is needed to understand christian history
Harold_parker - ahhh yes i see what you mean
Harold_parker - that could well be the case
Harold_parker - though i do wonder if there can never be a perfect translation
Harold_parker - but the best way i like to get around that
Harold_parker - is just take about 3 or so translations
Harold_parker - and put them in a spreadsheet
Harold_parker - and just read them
Harold_parker - and synthesise them
Harold_parker - since each translator will have a slightly different emotional response to what they translate
Rich - consider adding this newtork/channel to your auto join
Rich - we are new, and only have a few regulars
Rich - but the more folks tht remember to auto join it, the quicker it will hit critical mass
Rich - most are folks that work in the computer industry
Rich - so while the site is mostly about christian history, the channel often has computer talk and help
Harold_parker - yeh i already have
Harold_parker - i really gotta get into some work now
Harold_parker - but i'll idle in here
Harold_parker - and we can chat later
Rich - cool, that's all we can ask
Harold_parker - yeh i am keen to lock heads with some other early christian scholars
Harold_parker - :)
Harold_parker - i may lack some professional credentials in that field but i suppose every area of study has been enriched by the contributions of amateurs
Rich - i think that will be more and more the case with christian history
Rich - since the professionals really are trainned to only write bout stuff that will be acceptable to the supernaturalist community
Rich - the REAL break troughs will come from ideas introduced by laymen
oye - Morn
Rich - cheers
Rich - had nothing but a flow lazy day so far
oye - hey
Rich - cheers
Rich - just added my COMMENTS to my wiki
Rich - what a genius I am
Rich - morning boyz and boyz
oye - hey
Rich - what's going down
Rich - are you a java script god?
oye - no, far from it, most of my coding background consists of python, php, ruby, a bit of perl.
Rich - oh well, we need mark le blanc
Rich - i now have two scripts
Rich - one shows the tweets I want
Rich - and the other shows them how I want them
Rich - i am hoping a java script god can show me how to combine the two
Rich - nothing going on tonight?
Rich - i am working on some chores
Rich - clean up kind of chores
Rich - cheers
Harold_parker - sup
Rich - just changing a script to auto move files into iTunes
Harold_parker - noice
Rich - your nick seems familiar
Rich - but I completely forget who you are
Rich - since I have been living in a coding world for the last 20 hours
Rich - good afternoon boyz and boyz
oye - ACTION nods
Rich - oye!
Rich - put another shrimp on the barkie
Rich - barbie
oye - haha
Rich - and hand me that guiness mate
oye - I don't have any Guiness
oye - Heineken or Stella Artois, it's all I've got.
Rich - what are you a shanty drinkin poofta?
oye - well, if you want to look at it like that, lol.
oye - Heineken is tah best, gotcha?
Rich - A number one, eh joe
Rich - five dollar, i love you long time
oye - I hate America because of Budweiser, that ain't a real beer.
Rich - it is pretty piss poor
oye - yeah
oye - gotta learn from the Mexi and their Coronita how to fabricate a real beer.
oye - and Desperados (french beer).
Rich - omg!
Rich - historians have admitted to inventing the ancient greeks; [link]
oye - right.
oye - the Greek ancient culture was studied long before these folks popped in. Maybe they could alter things here and there, but no, they didn't invent the Greek culture.
oye - And it's quite impossible for a hand of people to invent something so huge and massive as the greek ancient culture.
Rich - you never heard of the onion did you
oye - only their mythology takes like, a lifetime.
Rich - it's a completely made up web site
oye - ah.
oye - haha
Rich - articles like "conservative christians demand repeal of second law of thermodynamics"
Rich - or "jesus hires associate christ"
oye - ok, ok, I got it now
oye - we got something like that here in Spain too
Rich - yeah, it's called the government
Rich - lolololo
oye - HAHA, word!
Rich - word, to your maomma
oye - to my what?
Rich - well, that was an exssion years ago
Rich - word up
Rich - and word to your momma
Rich - wow, talk about a dude that dug up a fortune
Rich - The magnificent Crosby Garret cavalry helmet found by a metal detectorist earlier this year sold to an anonymous phone bidder at a Christie's auction today for £2.3 million ($3.6 million), over 8 times the risibly low pre-sale estimate. Six bidders, 3 over the phone, 2 in the room and 1 over the internet from California thought to be the Getty, duked it out for a mere 4 minutes before the hammer fell.
Rich - part 26 of against polycarp is out; [link]
Rich - this guy is fun to read
oye - lol
Rich - oh, this guy is real, and completely serious
Rich - nice to see harold parker
Rich - now we just have to wake him up
oye - like, throwing stones at him?
Rich - maybe buy him a hooker
Rich - this is a test
Rich - welcome to the show
Rich - this is some prior chat
Rich - [link]
Rich - [link]
Rich - now is the time, for all good men
Guest214 - hello thee
Guest214 - hello there
Guest214 - Rich: is the best
Guest981 - ACTION hello
Guest776 - good evening
Guest776 - and I can type here
Guest520 - now is the time
Guest488 - hello
Rich - finally
Rich - what I have always dreamed of
Rich - doesn't get much simpler than that
Rich - the ultimate web site
Rich - actualy a utility for OTHER websites
Rich - now... I have a probject
Rich - to make a widget
Rich - that others can install on THEIR site
Rich - yeah, it mkes noise
MattMc - Mibbit Mibbit
Rich - word to your momma
Rich - now i am going to make a widget
Rich - that OTHERS can install on their site
Rich - and it will take you here
Rich - AND
Rich - they will sign up by giving me their RSS
Rich - and I will make that right hand sidebar shows a AGG of all the sites that install the widget
Rich - and it will auto shit when anyone does a new blog article
Rich - good idea?
Rich - so webulite really becomes simply a utility
Rich - well, does the thing actually work?
Rich - can you type?
Rich - or did you freeze?
Rich - is the alignment sort of ok? i notice chrome and firefox slightly have different spacing, so it has to be general, rather than perfectly specifically aligned, ie, all the colums and heights
Rich - your speechless!
Rich - brb
MattMc - Sexy, right?
MattMc - I don't see any text
Rich - you don't see this text?
Rich - dfdsfdsfs
Rich - sdfdsfdsf
Rich - dsfdsfsdfsdf
Rich - you don't see thing?
Guest170 - testing
Guest170 - hellop
Guest149 - nothing?
Guest546 - sdfdsf
Rich - do you see any text now?
Rich - you see anything yet?
MattMc - Testing Testing
Rich - when the baby jesus comes to town
MattMc - Whole lotta nothin. Now I don't even see our names.
Rich - all the ldies will go down
Guest621 - anything?
Guest621 - anything?
Guest621 - anything?
MattMc - Now THAT is sexy
Guest621 - anything?
Rich - ol
MattMc - Couple guests
MattMc - You and me
Rich - yeah
MattMc - Kinky
Rich - you get text now?
Rich - hello?
Rich - do you see thing?
Rich - dsfsdf
Rich - dsfds
Rich - dsfsdf
Rich - dsf
MattMc - Yeah
MattMc - Text text text
Rich - ok
Rich - now let me hide the nick list
Rich - that gives the window more room
Rich - but the colors look ok?
MattMc - Yeah
MattMc - It's not too shabby.
Guest621 - lok, hold on
Guest423 - baby jesus!
Guest423 - sdfd
Guest423 - sdfs
Rich - and a different person
MattMc - True dat
Guest903 - ok, is this sweet?
Guest903 - ok, try reloading the page
Guest608 - i'm a crazy text man
Rich - anyone here to suck cock?
Guest903 - now... we just need some sluts
Rich - any the baby jesus went
Rich - beep beep beep
MattMc - And, we're back
MattMc - All good, baby jesus
Rich - well, not really
MattMc - The Ad is back at the top where it belongs
Rich - can you do a screen snap for me?
Rich - and add it to image bin?
Rich - let me give you the url
MattMc - Processing
Rich - how about; [link]
Rich - ok, i am gonna try to elimiante the bnick list, wonder if that is fucking it up for you
Rich - ok, the idea is all should be the same
Rich - except
Rich - i don't show the list of nicks on the right now
Rich - and those optisons for patebin below the input are not there
MattMc - No?
Rich - and the # of sers in teh upper right should not be there
MattMc - Oh that's an option.
Rich - you have to reload to see
MattMc - Oh
MattMc - Hey look at that
MattMc - No nick list
MattMc - No numbers
Rich - but the add should not have changed place. It should be all the same, just cleaner
Rich - is the add at the top in the same place
MattMc - And the effin website won't let me load my image
MattMc - Yeah, ad is at the top
Rich - ok, so the it's all good?
MattMc - It's all good
Rich - i mean, folks that don't know that there is usually a list of nicks won't notice that things are odd
MattMc - Heh
MattMc - I'm used to nicks, too
Rich - but this gives more space
Rich - let me give you another image bin
Rich - hold on
Rich - howa bouty thins? [link]
Rich - oh, never mind
Rich - i don't even know what that is
Rich - how about [link]
MattMc - I figured you'd like that
Guest754 - what about the baby jesus
Guest754 - you would think that if you didn't show the #users and that menu button i the top right
Guest754 - that they would strech the ad
Guest754 - it looks fucking wrong
Guest754 - ut that is something I have no control over
Guest159 - will different users be diffeernt colors?
Guest159 - looks like that is a yes
Guest754 - is it?
Rich - well?
Guest754 - no
Guest754 - it's everyone ELSE is one color
Guest754 - and you are anohter
Guest754 - good enough for now
Rich - just me
Rich - now I need 3-4 IRC regulars
Rich - that have IRC clients
Rich - that will connect and be "greeters"
MattMc - Greeters baby jesus
Rich - you know
Rich - people to say "hello" for that 15 minutes that i am not at my computer during the day
Rich - lol
MattMc - True that
Rich - off for some coffee
MattMc - Yeah
MattMc - Off for some holiday work
Rich - enjoy life
Rich - :)
Rich - there you go
Rich - finally
Rich - that took some figuring out
Rich - but it might be set right now
Guest875 - yeap, it sure is
Guest875 - now anyone that its the site, automatically connects to the channel
Guest875 - finally
Rich - what is that good?
Rich - well, since I know how to push things to a channel
Rich - now i know how to do everything else
Rich - sometimes i love my life even more than others
Rich - let's see that links work
Rich - now is the time for google.com to come to the aid of their country
Rich - now is the time for [link] to come to the aid of their country
Rich - now maybe I will actually putz with the style sheet of the site, and see i I can make the embed take up the entire, or close to the entiure window
Rich - would be simple if I was working on my worn server
Rich - but blogspot pages are pretty fucked up
Rich - cheers
Rich - well, i blew up the whole thing
Guest707 - hello
Guest473 - hey there
Rich - cheers
Rich - ok, this is gonna be a somewhat unique web site
Rich - lol
Rich - it's more of a TOOL then a websites
Rich - matt, when you get around, gonna wanna pick your brain for some feedback
Rich - i can change the topic on the fly too right?
Guest642 - nice
Rich - Stephan Huller describes how he believes the Gospels were created; [link]
Rich - ok, we are kind of in buziness
Rich - matt, consider connecting with your xchat, and see if you have any problems connects, and perhaps leave it on to make sure that I am pinging regulair irc clients correctly, and keeping them from dropping.
Rich - ok, we got a publically editable doc now
Rich - cheers
Guest038 - Poofta?
Rich - doodha?
Guest038 - Yup.
Rich - nice
Rich - what a fucking coincidence
Guest038 - ?
Rich - i was just adjusting this page
Guest038 - Duh
Rich - and adding some fucntionality
Rich - what you been up to?
Rich - give me about two minutes to close out some files, and then we can talk.... hold on
Guest038 - This & that...
Guest038 - OK
Rich - ok, i'm back
Rich - what's going down?
Guest038 - Not much.
Rich - you can give yourself a nickname.... just type /nick bobby
Guest038 - Let's talk. What number should I call?
Rich - better for me to call you. I use google voice now
Rich - but I will not be able to call for an hour or two
Guest038 - OK
Rich - it's 3.19 here now
Rich - you are what 1.19?
Rich - i should add a clock on the page
Guest038 - OK. 12:19
Rich - so that everyone can use common tome
Rich - ok, i'll call you about 3 your time
Guest038 - I should be here, but you never know...
Rich - no problem
Rich - ah, you called cause hockey season started the 7th
Guest038 - Ciao, till then
Rich - anyone else here?
Rich - oh, i goess 03 was doodha
Guest134 - Jason
Rich - cheers
Rich - cheers
Guest709 - whats the site about
Guest709 - this site rather
Rich - it's general
Rich - my interests are religious history
Rich - politics
Rich - literature
Rich - and technology
Rich - cheers
Rich - having trouble?
Rich - or just got nothing to say?
Guest867 - hi rich. sorry, busy
Rich - hey there
Guest867 - preoccupied with another screen and forgot this one hidden away
Rich - who's this
Guest867 - neil
Rich - cool, did you see, you just type /nick neil and you become neil
Rich - thank's for stopping by
Rich - did those instructions scroll in light grey when you first entered?
Guest867 - yes
Rich - excellent
Guest867 - ah i see
Rich - i just rearranged a number of things here
Rich - really making webulite.com more of a tool than any kind of MY website
Rich - since I now also have RichGriese.NET which will become my personal website
neil - great
Rich - notice the other feautre
Rich - if you click that right link below the text input area
neil - i'm kinda preoccupied with getting ready to leave singapore -- in the process of moving home, countries and jobs
Rich - you will be taken to a document that anyone and everyone can edit
Rich - wow
Rich - where are you moving to?
neil - back to oz
neil - australia
Rich - what are you going to do there?
neil - melbourne
neil - much the same -- managing digital services etc
Rich - i have roommate that lived in Nelson NZ, north, south island
Rich - have = had
Rich - sweet better or worse library you going to?
Rich - iwould imagine there is more culture in singapore
Rich - not to put australia down or anything
neil - a real library. singapore is shit -- the library is not even run by librarians -- listened to an interview with author about the communist party in china, and comparing to to RC church -- it reminded me how things work in singapore
neil - no, singapore is all karaoke bars. very plastic city
Rich - i love you long time... just 5 dollar
neil - the racial and religious mix is interesting, but same-ish after a while
Rich - that is what I think of when i thin of singapore
Rich - and the drink, the singapore sling
neil - it's a great place to get away from on weekends -- slip over to cambodia or indonesia
Rich - and some huge modern buildings I have see pictures of
neil - yeh. it's a great place for the rich.
Rich - yeah, most places are
neil - i'm craving getting back to decent live blues and roots bands, and music festivals
Rich - excellent
Rich - well, thanks for coming by, i wanted to see if this thing actualy worked
Rich - i figured out howto drip someone right into the chat
neil - melbourne (most oz cities) are full of cultural activities too that are accessible to everyone, not like here
Rich - with them just hitting the site
Rich - i am hopig that makes people end up using it more
Rich - many people use the files and stiff on the older site
Rich - but they never sem to hit the button for the chat
neil - i'm struggling with windows 7 on my macbookpro and it ain't easy to navigate here
neil - the window keeps jumping like crazy for no reason except when it feels i should want to be at the top of the page
Rich - and since the idea of the site is to be a tool for bloggers to do things faster than a blog comment thread
Rich - why are you not using the mac os
Rich - but that is good to know.I have a mac
Rich - so I have not tested this with windows yet
neil - ah, i am looking at the editable doc now
Rich - perhps I have a java striptiung probem
Rich - ah... watch this
neil - back here
neil - this is easier. --
Rich - :)
Rich - see how cool this is
neil - but the other was a neat trick :-)
Rich - the page is good for a few things
Rich - like if you stop by and no one is here
Rich - you go over ther, and say "I i am neil, this is my web sites [link]
Rich - and andting else
Rich - of if two people wanted to write the preambel to the constitution
neil - i have not gone back to mcgrath's older post -- i decided to try to avoid seeing if or how he responded. not worth it.
Rich - they could work on that paragraph
Rich - yeah, to tell you the truth
Rich - you fall right into his trap
Rich - and actually help him promote his site
Rich - if you notice, almost all his commentors are anonymous type
neil - yes. i know the concept. we were working on this in a project i was once with -- publishing the "rubric toolkit" collaboratively that way
Rich - his participants are a certin type
Rich - former IRCers that have moved to blogging
Rich - all libertarian types that hord gold, and never want to reveal their REAL name
Rich - that is whywhen you link from their names, you notice almost none of them have sites
Rich - but....
Rich - so he really have a low class of participates, except for an occassional person that stops by
Rich - for 4-7 posts
Rich - and then often leaves
Rich - YOU provide free entertainment for HIS blog
Rich - YOY are probably the main draw for his site
Rich - that his regulars go to see
neil - i think he likes to stir up mythicist controversy to bump up his stats.
Rich - yes, i will explain more in depth what I feel his goals are one day
neil - i have noticed a few other blogs talking about mcgrath and me as if we are some kind of web institution :-)
Rich - but he was either told or realized at one point in his life
Rich - that he needed to downplay his evagelicalism
Rich - and get a degree
Rich - and pretend to be "learned"
Rich - to HIDE the prostelytizing, and use a different technique
neil - oh yeh. his books reek with it -- his subtle evangelism
Rich - that is why he freaks out so bad when I use the word supernaturalist on his blog
Rich - that and the word apologist are the two words he is looking to distance himself from more any any othes
Rich - so he wants to WHIP those words off his blog
neil - his main book is a bunch of shit, i was trying to see the point, and he finally explained it at the end by admitting most readers would not see the point, but it was important for Christian Theology to be "right" about the God concept
Rich - see the christian community has diversified
Rich - they have specialized
Rich - they have all kinds of people
Rich - the william lane craig branch
Rich - the platntinga type
neil - [link]
Rich - james is the "new young guard" to appeal to the internet community
Rich - so he works very hard to do two things
neil - that is what a team i worked with produced with the sort of versioning and collaborative technology and processes you are working on
neil - two things?
Rich - general comments and interest in his blog so it is seen as one of the "important" christian internet precences
Rich - 2) to hide his evangelicalism and sell himself as a HISTORIAN that is simply doing unbiased reasearch
neil - yeh. well he's let a few things slip recently that I might fiind useful about his ignorance as an historian.
Rich - yeah, that is just completely over the top
Rich - i would just say
Rich - get a degree in history, then we can talk
neil - once or twice i admit i baited him with a certain comment to get him to put in writing what i wanted to get from him
Rich - notice how he is always telling people what 'scientists and historians" do?
Rich - the crazy thing is, he is neither
Rich - and that needs to be exposed
neil - he's neither. he only knows about Christology for god's sake!!!!
Rich - yeah, but perception is reality
Rich - if people THINK he is a historian, he is
Rich - that is why he wants to make sure he keeps me off his logs
Rich - see i take a different approach
Rich - i don't talk about details
neil - That's all he writes about -- that and some sci fi tv program. he even gets carried away with his sci fi shit and thinks people really can't tell if they are living in "a matrix". he's living in a fantasy
Rich - or theological or historical arguments
Rich - i talk about the basics
Rich - like "jim, you keep saying 'historians and scientists', but are neither"
Rich - that kind of thing
neil - anywa, i must get back to things here
Rich - ok
Rich - cheers
Rich - talk to you again
neil - catch yo ulater
Rich - cheers
Rich - cheers

iAmCrazy - hi!!
iAmCrazy - u r rich?
Rich - yes I am
iAmCrazy - how much monies does you have?
Rich - what brings you here
iAmCrazy - somebody mentioned webulite.com on a chat this morning on irc
Rich - cool, what kind of channel
iAmCrazy - private message actually, it was kinda weird
iAmCrazy - i was talking on ##philosophy, saying crazy stuff like "i am zombie socrates, i will devour your Forms"
Rich - you are zombie Soc
Rich - i was talking to you in PM
iAmCrazy - o rite
iAmCrazy - so, this is ur web site?
Rich - yeah
iAmCrazy - its kind of general aint it
iAmCrazy - i mean the main page doesn't really say what it's for
Rich - did you go to the link?
Rich - under the chat?
Rich - or the one it posted when you entered?
iAmCrazy - yeah'
iAmCrazy - but i mean, it says bloggers can talk about their individual blogs but doesn't say what the subject is lol
Rich - that is because it is like a telephone
Rich - you can use the telephone to talk about almost anything
Rich - it
Rich - it's just a tool
Rich - this is just a tool
iAmCrazy - or rather, a compilation of tools put into a web site
iAmCrazy - you embed Mibbit for IRC chat and link to a Google Docs file and a Google Buzz thread
iAmCrazy - doing that would make sense if there was some kinda subject
Rich - well, i'll have to wait till people start using it
iAmCrazy - o i c
iAmCrazy - Do you play Minecraft?
Rich - no
Rich - i don't think i have ever plyed a computer game
iAmCrazy - really? you should try sometime :)
iAmCrazy - Minecraft is particularly impressive. One guy by himself works in his house for one year on a game and makes 3 million dollars on it in 3 months.
Ricco - Wednesday, October 13, 2010 11:04:08 PM
Rich - i never really was interested
Rich - cool
iAmCrazy - done correctly, electronic games can be an art form. And can become mediums for other art forms. Sculpture and modelling in the case of Minecraft.
iAmCrazy - people build models of places and things inside the game, like the Titanic or the Empire State Building or the Starship Enterprise
Rich - cool
Ricco - 11
iAmCrazy - check out this video made completely inside the game [link]
Rich - you mean you can build videos in the game itself
Ricco - 110718
iAmCrazy - well, that one was by capturing the screen while playing it
Rich - ah
Ricco - 110854
iAmCrazy - It's definitely theoretically possible to build videos inside games, but that phrase is kind of ambigious
iAmCrazy - whether it's been done or not depends on what you mean by "inside"
Rich - right
Ricco - [link]
Rich - i am working on a script to pump outside data into this channel automatically
Rich - that is what | is doing
iAmCrazy - sweet
iAmCrazy - having a platform like this is a cool idea but .... not just one, it would need to be built so it's easy for anyone to instantiate their own for their own group projects
Rich - yeah, i'm way ahead of ya
iAmCrazy - meanwhile I'm watching this guy with a hillarious British accent teach how to survive in survival mode in minecraft [link]
iAmCrazy - "let's have a go at this then" LOL
Rich - gonna try the next level of testing in 1 minute
iAmCrazy - meaning wut?
Ricco - this is a teset
Ricco - what is the status?
iAmCrazy - condition green, captain kirk sir
iAmCrazy - meaning totally screwed up
Ricco - this is a test
Rich - wow
iAmCrazy - but in secret language code.
Rich - it works
Rich - pretty cool
Ricco - condition green captian kirk sir
Rich - there really isn't a lot more that needs be done
Rich - i need a better timer, but the timer is ok for now
Rich - and now I simply need to build string content
Rich - but that will require a cup of coffee being made
Rich - gonna test for some basic non-whitespace
Rich - i can't be too fucked really concentrating
Rich - so i'm just kind of half assing it
Ricco - Delivered-To: webulite@gmail.com
Rich - :)
iAmCrazy - you should add a "send an email to the president" function
iAmCrazy - where somebody can just type !president OMG GO TO HELL OBAMA or !president WE LOVE U OBAMA U R THE NEW GOD! and he will get it
iAmCrazy - i think it's like president@whitehouse.gov or something.
Rich - yeah, i bet they got a whole team of folks deleting those
Ricco - I love you so much baby jesus.
Rich - well, there ya go
iAmCrazy - k well goodnite i guess :)

gloriacliu - hi,
Rich - what kind of stuff are you interested in
gloriacliu - I have read over your sites. It is so bountiful.
Rich - bountiful goodness
Rich - a cornicopia of bounty
Rich - mutiny on the bounty
gloriacliu - I need to raise fund for my dream.
gloriacliu - I am also doing the ads service to make living along with it.
gloriacliu - Are you a professor of theology?
gloriacliu - What a chant, you could educate your children well in their mind regulation and development.
Rich - no, i am just a retired computer guy
gloriacliu - Do you know about the crystalization study of the Bible?
gloriacliu - How's your family/
Rich - no, i never heard of that
gloriacliu - I just got acquainted with a brother from facebook. He will be so much interested in the same realms that you are, too.
gloriacliu - Perhaps you could go to the nearby local church from the Living Stream Ministry to have a look.
Rich - i'm not really interested in supernaturalism

Ricco - John Hardy : Yep, I can see two use cases...
Ricco - 1 - Move blogger blog into Buzz, one way. Sync comments two ways.
Ricco - 2 - Two way sync between Buzz (and FB and Twitter and ...?) and a Blogger blog, including posts and comments. Really here the blog is being used as a searchable permanent record of your social stream(s).

Rich - good morning
mib_i6t9gk - hi rich
Mark - Evening friend.
Rich - good evening
Rich - what's going down?
Rich - having problem with the chat page?
Mark - Evening.
Rich - hello again
Rich - you having trouble with the chat page?
Rich - cheers
Guest538 - Good evening.
Rich - how are you tonight?
Mark - Nice to see you got auto-login functional.
Mark - I am doing well.
Rich - yes, that was very helpful
Rich - what brings you here?
Mark - My fingers.
Mark - I went to my internet browser, and typed in webulite.com. This is where I ended up.
Rich - cool, what did you type in webulite.com for? I mean, what were your visiting for
Mark - No specific reason. I just wanted to see what you were up to.
Rich - cool
Rich - what is your site or blog url?
Mark - You already know that I do not have one.
Rich - oh, sorry
Rich - i actually have no idea who you are
Mark - You don't see my nickname?
Rich - yes, but I don't know who you are other than just a nick marl
Mark - Obviously you must know enough Marks on Irc that you don't need me anymore. ;P
Mark - LeBlannnnnnnnccccccccc out.
Rich - mark LeBracn!
Rich - what's going down
Mark - Not too much.
Mark - Wondering what to do with my weekend.
Rich - i got a new internet method, and it's really fun
Mark - I think I am going to write an IRC Client for my Ipod touch.
Rich - i've been sending all my google reader, and other stuff I 'follow"
Mark - Oh yeah?
Rich - to my email
Rich - and now I can use my email client as a first level database manager
Rich - i can flag items for followup
Rich - and all kinds of stuff
Rich - i prepress the sending so that I filter out all images, and scripts and stuff
Rich - and add te original source url to the email that I send myself
Rich - it's amazing
Rich - it has changed my life
Rich - :)
Mark - Well. I have something that will change your life.
Mark - RFC 2812.
Mark - [link]
Rich - cool, and why will that change my life?
Mark - One day, you will understand.
Rich - ok
Rich - i was thinking about that script you cleaned for me
Rich - and was thinking, ok, in general if it is getting some xml stuff, and then displaying it in that cool scrolling mannor
Rich - wouldn't it be cool to GENERALIZE it
Rich - and make the feed that it updates from a general parameter
Rich - then you could have scrolling update box on a web sites
Rich - that all kind of content could be sent too
Mark - Do you know how to write assembly code for the ARM architecture?
Rich - nope
Rich - although that is becoming less and less important
Rich - since people are actually visiting web sites less and les
Mark - The amount of knowledge you have in writing assembly for the ARM architecture. Is about as much knowledge I have of JavaScript.
Rich - everyone is having content pieces delivered to them now
Rich - instead of visiting web sites
Mark - I just thought of an innovative way to get rich.
Rich - sell things for more than it costs you to mke them?
Mark - Delivering Pornographic content to end-users.
Rich - and sell a lot of them?
Mark - :D
Rich - crazy
Mark - Yeah, most people use Rss feeds / readers. Or a select few news / social networking sites to see all the content they need.
Rich - so web stuff stuff really becomes less and less important
Mark - I on a daily basis visit: hackaday.com, and newscientist.com. Which provide me with my Tech / Science news, updates, etc.
Mark - Though I was looking into just grabbing the RSS feed and displaying it as a desktop gadget.
Mark - Which would pretty much completely remove my internet browsing.
Rich - just added them to my google reader feed
Rich - it's just that easy
Rich - for me, google reader has become a subset of the tool is wants to be
Rich - for me, it iss imply where I will add urls
Rich - all my reading now happens when I get the updates in email
Rich - oh, yeah
Rich - i created a folder in reader
Rich - and up all the items in it
Rich - so that I then have a single rss for ALL my items
Rich - reader doe a handy thing or two
Rich - like if you dan't see a RS link on a url
Rich - you just put the url into reader, and it usually finds that sites rss
Rich - plus, for me, the reader feed that I create by putting all my items in one folder
Rich - allows me to deal with a single xml expected format
Rich - so if different RS feeds have different items
Rich - i don't have to worry about it
Rich - since the RSS that reader crate that I ue a input to my emailing program i coniten with the field I then work with
Rich - here i omething I am alo very excited about
Rich - [link]
Rich - i love that ong
Rich - song
Rich - i can listen to it ten time a day
Mark - I hope your joking.
Rich - nope
Rich - completely seriou
Rich - i think it i a perfect pop ong
Rich - and i hated the video at first, but it has grown on me
Rich - looks like I got a sticky s key
Rich - cheers

Guest128 - Hi Rich. Steve G here.
Rich - hello steve
Guest128 - how's things

Rich - perfect
Rich - how about with you
Guest128 - not much
Rich - went to see bill play last weekend
Guest128 - What is posterous? I thought you were blogspot these days?
Guest128 - Oh, how was bill?
Rich - did you hear, he wrote a song that is going to be used in a fuji film commercial
Guest128 - Yeah, isn't that great?
Rich - yeah
Guest128 - Could be his big break
Rich - well, i use blog spot for the webulite from page cause I can do the irc magic
Rich - but for rich griese, and even a secondary webulite page I use poserous
Rich - it's pretty cool
Rich - you just email them and it's a blog item
Guest128 - Oh wow, I didn't even notice that webulite.com redirects to blogspot
Rich - i know that all the blos have tht now
Rich - but, posterous allows you to just attach mp3 and imges, and they display them perfectly
Rich - all by just sending an email
Guest128 - slick
Rich - yeah
Guest128 - all right, I'm going to go back to work. See ya.

Guest544 - hello?
Guest862 - chers
Rich - cheers
Guest664 - Hey mon
Dispraxis - it's me
Rich - what's going down?
Dispraxis - Johnny
Rich - i just added a mailing list to the site
Dispraxis - I was wondering how to spell steven stiles or styles or stephan or stephen
Rich - not sure it totally clear how it works
Rich - you trying to get in touch with him, let me see if I have his email
Dispraxis - i just wanted to read some of his stuff if he has a website
Rich - doesn't look like i have his email address any longer
Dispraxis - i could search if i had the correct spelling
Rich - i think it is stephen stiles
Dispraxis - that looks right
Dispraxis - doing a lot of reading
Rich - have you read richard carriers' book?
Rich - this one? [link]
Dispraxis - no, just some of his many web writings
Rich - i am on chapter 7
Rich - just finished 7
Rich - that one really had a lot of content
Dispraxis - i'm reading Stephan Hullers book and Doherty's revision of Jesus Puzzle...Neither God nor Man
Rich - which huller book?
Rich - against polycarp
Rich - the one he put out on his site
Dispraxis - nah, the real mess
Rich - what real mess
Dispraxis - messiah
Rich - oh
Rich - never heard of it
Dispraxis - there's a mess in here alright, but no messiah
Rich - there's a mess in my pants
Dispraxis - eee ooo
Rich - his _against polycarp_ was great
Dispraxis - watching gaga
Rich - lady gaga?
Rich - i lov tht song, bad romance
Dispraxis - i watched your posted video
Dispraxis - hold it, the coffee is going thru me...brb
Dispraxis - She's an interesting artist, but I'm not a big fan.
Rich - i just like that one song
Rich - could'nt even name another
Dispraxis - Heard of FUJI MINX?
Rich - no
Rich - i don't have a TV or radio or any friends
Dispraxis - Search the nerdinet... internet for the music made me do it...she's buck naked in that one
Rich - so unless I happen to hear a song, passing by some store, i just listen to my classical music internet station and my 100 CDs from 1990
Dispraxis - i resubscribed to rhapsody...since it's cheaper now
Rich - isn't pandora still free
Dispraxis - i heard that it was
Rich - anything else new
Rich - i've been reading more on medival times
Rich - found a good blog that posts PDFs often people disertations and stuff
Rich - i am discourged with NT studies and NT academics again, so I am avoiding them
Rich - to some extent
Dispraxis - i wrote a review of the movie Agora about Hypatia of Alexandria that Rene Salm wants to link to on his website
Rich - wjo is rene salm
Dispraxis - he is one of the judges of the Mythicist Prize along with Doherty and RM Price
Dispraxis - a Jesus Mythicist like me
Rich - wht is the mythicist prize?
Dispraxis - $1000 for an essay on Christian Origins that furthers mythicism
Rich - cool
Dispraxis - maybe next year
Rich - carriers's chapter 2 could pretty much win that
Dispraxis - the latest deadline was the beginning of October
Rich - is it some kind of group?
Rich - wht has bob been up to
Dispraxis - I'm sure he wouldn't turn down the cash
Rich - thought he was abandoning NT stuff
Dispraxis - Are you kidding...he's done 7 podcasts this month already
Dispraxis - on ustream still
Rich - great
Rich - i am the best
Dispraxis - He started asking for money via paypal, so it must be paying off
Rich - who else could have made him self sufficient like that
Dispraxis - the missus?
Rich - she could find a computer with a funnel
Dispraxis - sometimes Bob doesn't stop broadcasting after the show and I can hear them talking about domestic issues...funny
Rich - does he do anything with the chat?
Rich - how does he get question
Dispraxis - never...pays no attention to it, just occasionally he sees people come on, but no comments are acknowledged
Dispraxis - via email or even his Facebook page
Rich - ah
Rich - how long are they?
Dispraxis - Carol probably told him either make some Biblegeek money or quit...that's my theory
Rich - I always thought he need to make 20 minute podcasts
Rich - instead of hour or two shows
Dispraxis - averaging about an hour, sometimes more, but seldom less that 50 minutes
Dispraxis - he's a dynamo
Rich - any new good questons
Rich - i noticed over the years, he tended to get the same questions over and over
Dispraxis - that still happens, but yeah, there are some good ones...you know my interest like yours is with the origins material...don't care about the theology questions, etc.
Rich - huller has got me convinced that Ireanaus had a HUGE role
Dispraxis - The book The Real Messiah deals with St. Mark being Marcus Agrippa, etc. I was reading the Polycarp material, but I haven't been to the site in about 3 weeks
Rich - i got easy pointers
Rich - [link]
Dispraxis - thanx
Rich - easy to follow one after another
Dispraxis - apparently, going by URL color, I've read about 40% of those links already
Rich - that's why i made the page
Dispraxis - at least since i re-installed firefox
Rich - so people could easily fill n the holes
Dispraxis - very handy
Dispraxis - I have 666 Facebook friends. Spooky.
Rich - facebook is the devil
Dispraxis - apparently
Dispraxis - i got totally possessed by it
Rich - i find it amazing that people want to have all their private information sold to companies
Rich - people were alwatys complaining about privacy
Dispraxis - i don't think privacy is possible anymore
Rich - but facebook is selling every single keystoke that you and all your friends are entering to large corporations
Dispraxis - when i was an internet marketer I did the same thing
Dispraxis - everything i do is thru att...phone, iphone, internet, cable...they have more information on me than anyone
Dispraxis - google has info about me
Dispraxis - yahoo is the host for att email on my system...they have tons of stuff
Dispraxis - i belong to yahoo groups...they have all my religious rantings
Dispraxis - twitter has info on me and what i tweet
Dispraxis - netflix has info on my DVD viewing habits
Dispraxis - the list goes on and on
Dispraxis - I'm looking up something in my Ante-Nicene fathers etexts....
Dispraxis - I guess i don't have what i was looking for...it's online, though
Rich - how is the portrait sizing on this page? [link]
Dispraxis - looks the same as the last time i saw it...not too big. Just right
Rich - ok, cool, cause that page hasn't had a picture for months
Rich - i just added it back
Dispraxis - i just recently saw it somewhere...another page?
Rich - yeah, it should now be on ALL my pages
Rich - you probably saw it here; [link]
Dispraxis - so ubiquitous as to be unnoticed by me
Dispraxis - yes, that was it
Rich - that is the master page
Dispraxis - the picture there shows larger than the one on posterous
Rich - yeah
Dispraxis - there's some crazy shit on that posterous site
Rich - what do you mean
Rich - i am having a hard time getting my profile blob to update
Rich - can't tell if it's a catching problem or what
Dispraxis - followed the link to the site that was at the top of your richgriese.net page (I think) with the blogs and videos, etc.
Rich - how long have you been using the internet?
Dispraxis - i'm a newbie
Rich - and don't know that pasting a URL is the way to describe a page
Rich - why would anyone describe a page when they can simply paste a url
Dispraxis - i don't post links
Rich - you fucking insane
Dispraxis - yep
Rich - this one still cracks me up; [link]
Dispraxis - actually, i closed out the page and you would force me to go back and look it up. i'm just too lazy
Dispraxis - i saw at least one of his videos a while back
Dispraxis - the power of christ compiles you
Rich - the power of christ compels you!
Rich - the power of christ compels you!
Rich - the power of christ compels you!
Dispraxis - I'm going to bed. Talk at ya soon.
Rich - cheers
Rich - cheers
Rich - what's going down?
Rich - you there?
Rich - why can i never find my backups when I need them!
Guest611 - good morning
Rich - hello
Guest611 - noticed a discussion on supernaturalism on one of the threads
Guest611 - do you have a good link?
Rich - yes, try... [link]
